NBA Premium Play 01/19: San Antonio Spurs @ Atlanta Hawks

NBA - 501 San Antonio Spurs @ 502 Atlanta Hawks

Projected Line: 194 points

San Antonio had a home win over Golden State last night, where the Spurs didn't have a good shooting night with 7-20 FG from 16-23 feet and 5-22 3pts! It was necessary a big effort from Tony Parker with 37 minutes and 10-18 FG and Tim Duncan with 32 minutes and 9-16 FG for San Antonio to win the game. The Spurs has been making an effort to limit the turnovers, in order to stop the transition game from their opponents. This is why they committed only 11 turnovers last night that resulted in just 11 fast break points from Golden State. Due to a problem with the basket, San Antonio's game last night ended more later than expected and so, they won't be on a good spot for their road game at Atlanta tonight.

The Hawks are coming from a loss at Brooklyn, where they didn't have legs to finish the game. They were shorthanded and coach Larry Drew was forced to use some weird lineups like Anthony Tolliver, Ivan Johnson and Johan Petro at the same time in the frontcourt! Atlanta had an edge on transition plays with 17 fast break points and 10-12 FG on transitions. The problem is that without Al Horford, they barely used their inside game, with almost exclusively jump shots on offense. Brooklyn won the rebounding battle by 48-35, attempted 38 free throws and that was enough for them to win the game.

Both teams aren't in good spot for tonight and yesterday, it was visible that both teams were lacking intensity on offense. It's only enough to look at the score of the fourth quarters of their games to realize that: Atlanta 20-15 and San Antonio 17-15. Both teams also had to travel, so this is indeed a poor spot for them. Both Tim Duncan and Tony Parker are coming from big games last night and it will be hard to keep the same intensity tonight, while the same can be said about Jeff Teague, who was super aggressive in both games against Brooklyn. Atlanta is a good defensive team against transitions and pick and roll ball handler plays by being ranked #8 and #5 in the league respectively and this will limit San Antonio's offense. I expect a low scoring game in here and so, I'll be taking the Under in here.
