NBA Premium Play 01/16: Houston Rockets @ Dallas Mavericks

NBA - 711 Houston Rockets @ 712 Dallas Mavericks

Projected Line: Dallas by 8 points

Dallas is indeed playing very well lately. Their style hasn't change even with Dirk Nowitzki in the lineup, as they continued being a fast paced team! However, their rotation is now better defined with Chris Kaman, Dirk Nowitzki, Shawn Marion, O.J. Mayo and Darren Collison in the starting lineup, with Vince Carter and Elton Brand coming off the bench. Their ball movement has been impressive as well, almost at San Antonio's level! They have a season average of 1.64 A/TO, but their numbers skyrocket to 2.02 on their last 10 games and 2.23 on their last 5 games! The Mavericks are also shooting very well from the outside and they are super lethal on fast break points. Over the last 3 games, they scored 23, 21 and 31 fast break points!

Fox Sports Southwest highlighted four of the critical areas where the Mavericks had improved over the last 7 games compared with the previous 31:

Rebounding margin improved from -4.9 (worst in the NBA) to even.
Turnovers per game improved from 15.6 to 11.6 (2nd fewest in the NBA)
Opponents’ point off turnovers decreased from 18.7 to 15.0
Opponents points in the paint decreased from 41.2 to 36.9.

Tonight, they will face the Rockets, who will use their usual system of playing at a very fast pace. However, this will be a problem for Houston's defense, as the spot isn't great for Houston, as they played last night at home against the Clippers. Houston has been regressing a bit on offense, with more turnovers, worse FT shooting and worse rebounding. Houston isn't showing any effort on defense and so, they need monster numbers on offense to be competitive and this isn't happening right now. Jeremy Lin isn't in good form, Omer Asik isn't dominating the boards and only James Harden looks to be in good form right now.

I feel that Dallas is playing much better than Houston right now and that they will outplay the Rockets at their own game. I expect an easy win for Dallas today and so, I'll be taking them in here.

Pick: 3 units (Single Dime Play) on 712 Dallas Mavericks (-4) @ -110 / 1.91 on Bookmaker
