NBA Premium Play 01/17: Miami Heat @ Los Angeles Lakers

NBA - 507 Miami Heat @ 508 Los Angeles Lakers

Projected Line: 203 points

Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard have been playing well lately on offense, but it has been on defense that they have been really stepping it up. Kobe absolutely stopped Brandon Jennings, with some excellent defense, while Dwight Howard's rim protection has been nearly flawless. The only thing Milwaukee was really able to cause problems to the Lakers's defense was on grabbing offensive rebounds, as they grabbed 21. The Lakers will now face Miami, who is a bad offensive rebounding team, so I don't expect the Heat to have this edge on offensive boards tonight.

This is a bad spot for Miami, as this is the final game of a 6-game road trip, where they will be now playing their third game in four nights, having played last night at Golden State, on a blowout win, where the team could rest a bit, as Lebron James played just 31 minutes and Dwayne Wade 30 minutes. The Lakers will come to this game with a defensive mindset, with Kobe Bryant defending Dwayne Wade. The LA team will definitely want to show that they are a good defensive team and so, I expect them to continue showing some good defense tonight against a Heat team on a poor spot. The Lakers have been using a slower tempo on their recent games, as they averaged 92.3 on their last two games, when they had averaged 97.50 on the six games prior to this span. I expect a medium but not fast paced game in here, with the Lakers showing some good effort on defense and stopping Miami's offense with some success. The same thing should happen on the other side, as the Lakers's offense keeps being a bit predictable. Therefore, I believe the totals line is set too high for this contest and therefore, I'll be taking the Under in here.
