Arizona was able to win their last two games against Miami and they are still in the playoff hunt, but they need to pretty much dominate this series against the Padres, who are coming from sweeping the Pirates. San Diego will start Stults today and he is coming from three consecutive starts, where he didn't convince me. First of all, he had a good start against the Cubs, but the Cubs are the second worst team in the league against LH pitchers plus Stults had a 4.55 xFIP in that game. Then, he went to Atlanta in a horrible spot for the Braves, as they were coming from a SNB game in NY against the Mets in the previous night. Atlanta used 4 LH batters in that game and so, Stults didn't struggle very much, as he generally struggles against RH batters, as he is .280 BA, 4.43 FIP and 5.37 xFIP against them. Finally on his last start against San Francisco, he was pounded by allowing 5 earned runs and 9 hits in 6.0IP, while having just a 1/0 K/BB ratio and 7.50 ERA, 4.93 FIP and 5.21 xFIP. He has previously faced Arizona at home and he was crushed with 6 runs and 7 hits in 6.1IP, including 3 homeruns in a game played in the Petko Park! I believe Stults will be crushed tonight against the Dbacks offense, who is known for pounding LHP on their home games.
On the other hand, Arizona will start Corbin tonight and he has been pitching very well lately. He allowed 4 runs on his last outing in Houston, but he only needed 88 pitches to reach 7IP, with a low 12.6 P/IP! He didn't start the season well, but he made a great bounce back with 2.08 FIP and 2.77 ERA over the last two months. This is a good spot for him against the unimpressive Padres lineup and so, I believe he will have another quality start tonight.
With Arizona having a massive SP edge tonight and with their offense having now a bit of confidence regained after two wins in the Wednesday doubleheader against Miami plus the rest they had yesterday, I believe the Dbacks will have a very easy win tonight and therefore, I'll take them in here in a Triple Dime Play!
