MLB - 951 Atlanta Braves @ 952 Washington Nationals
(Starting Pitchers: T. Hudson vs J. Zimmermann)
On this divisional series, Atlanta will start Hudson on tonight's game and he is currently on great form, as he is 6-0 with a 3.12 ERA, 1.143 WHIP and 24/12 K/BB ratio over his last eight starts (49 IP). The veteran Hudson keeps looking impressive, but he really needs his rest between outings, as he is allowing .234 BA and 4.48 ERA with 4 days rest, while with 5 days rest, he is allowing just .219 BA and 1.56 ERA. Looking at the fact that he is coming for this game with 5 days rest, while coming from a shutdown against the Padres, he has a great spot to dominate tonight and get revenge for the two poor starts he has already had against Washington this season, in which he had just 4 days rest prior to those games.
The Nations will start Zimmermamn today and even though he is coming from a good outing in San Francisco against the Giants, where he allowed two runs in 5.2 IP, the truth is that he has a clearly higher FIP and xFIP than ERA (3.25 FIP, 3.56 xFIP and 2.38 ERA), a clear sign that he is likely to experience some regression soon. With Atlanta being a good road team and a good hitter against RH pitchers, I believe Zimmerman will be in more trouble tonight than Hudson.
With Washington coming from a winning series against the lowly Mets, while Atlanta is coming from back to back losses at home with the up and coming Dodgers, I believe Atlanta will be more fired up for this contest and they should be able to make Zimmermann struggle a bit tonight, while Hudson dominates the Nationals. I believe Atlanta has a lot of value tonight and so, I'll take them in here. Considering the fact that I expect Hudson to dominate and Zimmermann to also have a decent performance, I believe this game will have a low number of runs scored and so, I'll be taking the Under in here as well.
