MLB - 919 Baltimore Orioles @ 920 Detroit Tigers
(Starting Pitchers: W. Chen vs D. Fister)
After Baltimore's upset win last night, the series is now at 1-1, with today's game deciding which team will win the series. Baltimore will start Chen, who is coming from a very lucky outing against Boston, where he was always able to clean his messes by giving up just one run on nine hits in 6IP. In fact, he allowed at least one hit in each inning pitched, so basically he didn't pitch much better than he had pitched on his terrible outing against Kansas City in the previous game. He was simply luckier this time.
With just four days rest for this contest and with Detroit trying to bounce back from last night's defeat, I expect Chen to struggle big time today.
On the other side, Detroit will be starting Fister today and he has been great since the All-Star break by going 5-1 with 1.52 ERA and a 48/8 K/BB ratio in 53.1 IP. He is coming from a 120 pitches outing in Minnesota, where he dominated but still allowed four earned runs. He had a 2.65 FIP in July and he is having a 2.58 FIP in August, so I believe Fister won't have a lot of problems against the Orioles lineup. With Chen surely struggling today against the Tigers' hitters today, I expect Detroit to have an easy win today and so, I'll take them in here.
