Minnesota is struggling right now, as they are coming from a sweep in Seattle and they have just won one game of their last ten. Considering they will start the also struggling Duensing tonight, I don't believe things will be better for them tonight. Densing has allowed 16 runs (11 earned) and 29 hits in just 19 innings on his last three starts. For the season, he is 1-6 with a 6.34 ERA as a starter and last month, he was crushed by Oakland with six runs and seven hits in just two innings. He is also coming from giving up five runs and eight hits in 6IP against Detroit, so he is definitely in poor form right now and a very confident team like Oakland is right now will pound him big time tonight.
Oakland will start McCarthy tonight and he has already made two starts since coming out of the DL, where he allowed 3 runs in 6IP on his return game against the White Sox and then, he allowed just 2 runs in 6.2 IP against Kansas City, in a game where he had great advanced numbers with 2.70 ERA, 1.89 FIP and 3.67 xFIP. His command continues to be excellent and he had just one walk on these two starts, something that it is key for him, as the Twins have .290 BA in 62 AB against him, but just .657 OPS due to that the fact he has never walked a Minnesota batter on his career. McCarthy has been pitching extremely well at home this season with 1.57 ERA and 2.77 FIP, so he should have no problems against the struggling Twins offense tonight.
With Oakland being in the playoff hunt right now and looking confident after sweeping Cleveland, while Minnesota is clearly struggling right now and they'll use a very poor SP, I can expect nothing in here but an easy win for Oakland and so, I'll take them in here.
