MLB Premium Play 08/22: Atlanta Braves @ Washington Nationals

MLB - 957 Atlanta Braves @ 958 Washington Nationals

(Starting Pitchers: K. Medlen vs R. Detwiler)

The Braves' clutch hitting has gone AWOL on this season and with that, they have now lost this series against the Nationals. They'll try to avoid a sweep tonight when they started Medlen, who has been amazing lately by going 3-0 on his last four starts, while striking out 22 hitters in 25.2 IP. He is coming from his first complete game on his last start against the Padres, in a shutout when he didn't allow any walks and had six strikeouts. His FIP numbers on his last three starts were 1.76, 1.36 and 1.97, he has an excellent command and when a super groundball pitcher has such great command, he becomes almost unstoppable. Looking at the fact the Nationals' roster is hitting just .231 BA and .583 OPS against him and his good spot for tonight with 5 days rest, I believe Medlen will have another impressive outing tonight.

Washington will start Detwilder and he has just surrendered nine earned runs on his last 24.2 IP. However, he has a problem with his command, especially with the fact that he can't strikeout almost anybody (1/2/2 K on his L3 games). His FIP numbers aren't that great (3.79 FIP and 4.28 xFIP) and those numbers get clearly worse on his last four starts (3.26/4.17/5.24/3.10 FIP and 4.25/6.38/4.65/4.36 xFIP). This will be his fourth start against the Braves and Atlanta has been hitting .311 BA and .834 OPS against him. Chipper Jones was rested yesterday, so today he will be fresh to put Detwiler in danger. Atlanta hasn't been playing badly on their series, they just need to improve their clutch hitting today (3-25 RISP on this series). With a clear SP edge, I believe the Braves have all the conditions to comfortably win this game and so, I'll take them in here tonight.

Pick: 3 units (Single Dime Play) on 957 Atlanta Braves ML (w/ K. Medlen) @ -107 / 1.94 on 5Dimes
