MLB - 915 Oakland Athletics @ 916 Tampa Bay Rays
(Starting Pitchers: T. Ross vs A. Cobb)
This is a horrible spot for Oakland, as they finished playing a home series against Minnesota yesterday and they had now to travel three timezones to start a series tonight in Tampa Bay. To make things worse for them, their SP Bartolo Colon was suspended and they had to get Tyson Ross as their backup plan for tonight. Ross is coming from Triple-A and he has been absolutely terrible this season. Looking at the fact that on his last two starts in the minors, Ross issued a total of nine walks, I expect him to struggle big time tonight against the most patient batters in the league with 9.4% BB%.
On the other side, the Rays will start Cobb, who is coming from a disastrous outing in LA against the Angels. He will be trying to bounce back tonight and looking at the fact he was in good form prior to that start, with five consecutive good outings where he always went deep in the game (7.0IP on his last four starts prior to the LA game). On his three starts prior to his game in LA, Cobb had just allowed a total of 13 hits and 3 earned runs in a combined of 21 innings against Seattle, Toronto and Oakland. Tonight in another game against the Athletics, I expect Cobb to bounce back against a poor Oakland lineup in a very tough spot for them.
With a very clear SP edge, with a better offense and with a much better spot for tonight, I expect Tampa Bay to have a very comfortable home win tonight and so, I'll be taking the Rays on this contest.
