Pittsburgh is 0-2 on this series and they will start McDonald today to avoid getting swept on this series. McDonald finally resembled the pitcher who went 9-3 and 2.37 ERA in the 1st half of the season on his last outing, where he allowed just two hits and struck out seven batters in six shutout innings against the Cardinals. After a very bad period, McDonald received extra rest and he took advantage of that to have a good outing against St Louis. He will also be rested for this game as he had 6 days to rest, therefore I expect him to have another good outing today against the Padres.
San Diego will be debuting Werner today and he wasn't impressive in Triple-A by going 1-2 with a 5.79 ERA. Prior to his first promotion, he had gone 4-8 with 3.23 ERA in 18 starts on Double-A. Werner throws in the high 80s and features a curve and changeup, but with this pitching speed, he will get crushed against the Pirates, who will be looking to avoid the sweep on this series. This is a great spot for Pittsburgh and so, I'll be taking them today in here. Double Dime Play!
