San Francisco is returning home tonight after a sweep in LA against the Dodgers and they will be starting the struggling Zito on their first game of a four-game series against Atlanta. Zito is 1-1 with a 7.52 ERA in four starts this month, including an outing against the Padres last Saturday, where he allowed four runs in the same number of innings. He had good run support in San Diego because besides that, it was the typical Zito start lately with 6 hits and 4 runs allowed in 4.0 IP, with a 1/2 K/BB ratio and 9.00 ERA, 7.34 FIP and 6.30 xFIP. Just awful.
The Braves will be starting Hanson tonight and he had a good comeback last Friday, after missing a month of baseball due to a back injury. He allowed just three runs in 6.2 IP, however his velocity has been down and his command remains a bit unstable and considering his recent comeback, it's normal that he won't be able to have two consecutive positive outings, especially against a good offense like the Giants.
With Zito struggling so much, even Atlanta on a poor spot tonight due to the long trip should be able to put him in massive trouble and score a good number of runs tonight. On the other hand, Hanson is likely to struggle today as well due to his recent comeback and inconsistency, therefore I expect this game to actually have a high number of runs scored and so, I'll be taking the Over in here.
