The Giants will be trying to sweep the series today and for that, they'll start Vogelsong, who was horrible last Monday, where he allowed eight runs in just 2.2IP last Monday. This is Vogelsong's second poor outing on his last three games, but before that he had had 16 quality outings in a row. Looking at the fact that these two struggles against the team with the best record in the league and Colorado on the road, I believe Vogelsong was just punished by a great offense and that something similar won't be happening again today against the lowly offense of the Padres, especially in such a pitcher-friendly park.
San Diego will start Richard, who is coming from allowing five runs and nine hits in 6.1IP in Atlanta last Tuesday. He was in good form previously to that game, with two great outings against the Mets and the Cubs, but a superior offense of the Braves did the job against him. Looking at the fact San Francisco's offense has been on fire during this series with .357 and .333 BA, I expect Richard to struggle today against the good lineup of the Giants. Especially when San Francisco's roster is hitting .348 BA and .917 OPS against him in 161 AB's!
This is a good bounce back spot for Vogelsong, while the Giants' offense should punish Richard one more time. I believe San Francisco has edges on this contest in both SP and hitting, therefore I'll take the Giants to win this game.
