NBA Premium Play 11/21: Detroit Pistons @ Orlando Magic

NBA - 503 Detroit Pistons @ 504 Orlando Magic

Projected Line: Detroit by 5 points

***TRIPLE DIME PLAY***

Detroit is entering this game on a revenge mode, after having lost to Orlando at home last week. Since Rodney Stuckey left the starting lineup, with Kyle Singler starting on his place, the Pistons have been playing really well. They were competitive twice against Oklahoma City, they won at Philadelphia and they crushed Boston at home on their last game! On their blowout win over the Celtics, Detroit showed good ball pressure and with full court pressure when Leandro Barbosa was on the PG position. The Celtics had 18 turnovers and just 12 assists in the game! The Pistons moved the ball well in transition, while having 23 assists and outscoring the Celtics by 20-4 on the fast break points! Although Brandon Knight had by far his worst game of the season in terms of running the offense with just one assists and five turnovers, Will Bynum and Rodney Stuckey played well coming off the bench, with each having five assists and combining for 21 points with no turnovers! The starting lineup also shot very well with 26-44 (59%) FG, with Greg Monroe shooting 8-11 FG and Kyle Singler 6-9 FG!

The Pistons are now a very different team from the one that started the season. They have a good identity now, with Kyle Singler in the starting lineup, a player who likes to play near the basket, unlike Rodney Stuckey, and that's a good idea as Detroit doesn't have a lot of good jump shooters. Singler is a very practical player, while Greg Monroe and Jason Maxiell work very well together on the frontcourt. Tayshaun Prince has been also playing well and only Brandon Knight has been inconsistent, with poor offensive decisions that sometimes lead to turnovers. The good part is that everytime that happens, he is benched and replaced by Rodney Stuckey and Will Bynum, two decent PG's in terms of ball handling and leading an offense.

They will be facing a banged up Magic team, who is coming from a clear loss in Atlanta, where both J.J. Redick and Jameer Nelson played limited with illness. Atlanta had a 24 points lead during the fourth quarter, but then Larry Drew inserted some third string lineups into the court and allowed Magic to make it a 9 points loss at the end of the game. Orlando's offense was completely non-existent with their two best perimeter players limited on a back to back game. Not even on transitions they were effective with just 5-17 FG!

The first thing that comes to my mind in terms of this matchup is the huge frontcourt edge Detroit has over Orlando. On the first game of the series, both teams shot really well, with Detroit having a good offensive game due to Orlando's soft interior defense. Both Greg Monroe and Jason Maxiell pounded Orlando's inexperienced centers down low, as Detroit's big men pounded the Magic poor interior defense with 26-39 FG at the rim and 5-8 FG from 3-9 feet. Detroit played very well on offense in every area, except on pick and roll ball handler, where Brandon Knight struggled. Besides that, the Pistons did everything well on offensive that involved the big players: pick and roll roll man, post ups, cuts, etc.

The problem of Detroit in that game was that they overlooked Orlando a bit. They were coming from a win and they were scoring very easily against them. They were up by 13 points with just 3 minutes to go on the third quarter and they started to show no effort on boards, with that eventually being the key of Orlando's win, as they grabbed 60% of the total rebounds! But this time, Detroit won't be surely overlooking Orlando. Detroit will be focused and with big lineup, they will pound Orlando down low once again! The Magic are now playing with Nikola Vucevic, Glen Davis, Arron Afflalo, J.J. Redick and Jameer Nelson in the starting lineup and that leaves them with absolutely no quality on the second unit, something that Detroit will also take advantage with a much bigger depth, especially on the backcourt. I expect a comfortable revenge win for the Pistons in here and so, I'll be taking them in here on a Triple Dime Play!
