MLB - 959 Boston Red Sox @ 960 Tampa Bay Rays
(Starting Pitchers: A. Cook vs A. Cobb)
Boston's offense has been a disaster lately, with their depleted lineup hitting .685 OPS over the last 30 days and even .649 OPS on their last two weeks. In both cases, we are talking about a bottom 10 rank. They'll face Cobb tonight, who after a disaster in LA against the Angels where he allowed eight runs in 2.1 innings, has been quite solid with 0, 3, 2 and 2 earned runs in games where he always faced top teams: Baltimore, the Yankees, Texas and Oakland. He faced the Red Sox just once and it wasn't exactly against the current Red Sox lineup and this roster only had 15 AB's against Cobb in that start. Therefore, I expect Cobb to surprised a poor hitting lineup of the Red Sox and have another quality outing in here.
So, the key in here is to know if Cook will also be effective tonight or not and I believe he will. With Longoria out of today's lineup, I believe Cook's task will be easier tonight. He doesn't have a great strikeout ability, but the Rays will help them, as they have the worst mark in K% over the past 30 days with 24.1%! Cook has just 34 AB's against the current Rays roster, so he will also have a surprise factor helping him. Cook is also coming from two solid outings against Seattle and the Yankees with 2 and 3 earned runs allowed, so I expect him to have a quality outing tonight. With both starting pitchers having good performances, I expect this game to be a low scoring game and so, I'll be taking the Under in here.
