The Cubs will start their Samarszija today, who has been their ace lately. He has 15 quality starts in 26 outings this season and he is coming from a good performance, where he allowed just two earned runs in seven innings against Milwaukee. He keeps looking very good in terms of command and he has now 163 strikeouts in 158.2 innings this season. Considering the letdown spot Washington will be in today, after a grueling series against the Cardinals, I believe Samarszija has great conditions to have a good outing today.
Washington will start Detwilder, who hasn't won two straight decisions since April. He is coming from an outing against the Marlins, where he allowed three runs and four hits in 5.2 innings. However, he keeps not being able to go deep on their games, something that may turn out to be a problem today, as the Nationals bullpen was very used over the last two days, as Zimmerman only pitched 3.2 innings and Strasburg 6.0 innings.
This is a good spot for the Cubs, as Washington is coming from a big series and therefore I expect Samardzija to dominate Washington early on the game. I don't trust Detwilder, but I don't trust the Cubs bullpen neither, therefore I've decided to take the Cubs in here on the runline of the first five innings, instead of taking them in the full game to avoid any disaster from the terrible Cubs bullpen.
