MLB - 927 Boston Red Sox @ 928 Oakland Athletics
(Starting Pitchers: D. Matsuzaka vs B. Anderson)
Oakland has outscored Boston by 27-3 in the first two games of this series and with them being on fire right now, I believe they will also put Matsuzaka in a lot of trouble today. Matsuzaka came from the DL list last Monday and had a great start against Kansas City by allowing just one unearned run and five hits in seven innings. However, this game was played in the afternoon and as the last game of a wild series, therefore the Royals batters were very tired and couldn't put Matsuzaka in trouble. Kansas City is also the least patient lineup in the league (last in BB%), so they couldn't test Matsuzaka's generally poor command, something that Oakland (#4 in BB%) will definitely do today, therefore I expect Matsuzaka to struggle big time today against a red hot patient offense that will both make some hits and force him to walk some batters.
The Athletics will start Anderson, who has looked dominant in two starts since coming from surgery. He has just allowed a total of one run and six hits in his two outings against Cleveland and Minnesota. With Ellsbury not being in today's Boston lineup, the Red Sox don't really have enough firepower to put him on trouble today to compensate the trouble that Matsuzaka will experience today.
With Oakland being on fire on offense and having a SP and bullpen edge for today's contest, I can only expect another easy win for the Athletics today and so, I'll be taking them in here.
