NBA Premium Play 03/29: Charlotte Bobcats @ New York Knicks

NBA - 859 Charlotte Bobcats @ 860 New York Knicks

Projected Line: NY Knicks by 10 points | 200 points

The Bobcats are being much more competitive right now than they were for example at the start of this month, when they were losing every game by more than 20 points, where I made my share of fade picks on them. However, Charlotte has been playing much better lately. Kemba Walker and Gerald Henderson are being much more efficient on offense, Byron Mullens was finally demoted and he is now a mere backup, while Josh McRoberts is now on the starting lineup and even though he is far from being a good player, he is like an All-Star player in comparison to Mullens!

This increase in the Bobcats's competitive levels will be well tested tonight on a matchup that is actually favorable to them, as the Knicks are on a perfect fade spot tonight. The NY team is currently in a winning streak and they are coming from back to back games, where they crushed good teams in Boston and Memphis. After tonight's game, they will be facing the Celtics once again next Sunday, so this is a pure "overlook" spot for them tonight.

Even though Charlotte is pretty one-dimensional on offense, as they need both their combo guards Walker and Henderson to perform well to be somewhat competitive on their games, they have a great matchup against the Knicks. The NY team is using Raymond Felton and Pablo Prigioni as their starting backcourt, so their lack of speed is quite evident on that area. On the other hand, Tyson Chandler is out due to injury and so, the Knicks are playing without their best interior defender as well. Keynon Martin is playing well, but he isn't Chandler at all! This is probably why the Knicks are allowing 70% FG at the rim on their last 10 games and also why they have allowed 1.00 PPP on pick and roll ball handler plays over their last 10 games!

Of course the Bobcats's defense still sucks at both defending on the inside and in the perimeter, but they won't be pounded down low tonight, as the Knicks are completely perimeter-oriented right now. Sure that the Bobcats is an awful 3pts defensive team all season long and that hasn't improved recently, as they are allowing 41.7% 3pts (#28 in the league) on their last 10 games, however with the edges they will have on offense tonight, I expect Charlotte to take advantage their clear spot edge and turn this game into a surprisingly competitive one. Therefore, I'll be taking the Bobcats tonight in a shootout contest.
