Atlanta has been using lately a fast and athletic starting lineup with Al Horford, Josh Smith, Kyle Korver, Devin Harris and Jeff Teague. This lineup turns Atlanta into an excellent transition team, with also a great ability to shoot at the rim with easy dunks and layups. This is why they have scored 28, 11, 29, 22, 21 and 28 fast break points on their last six games, for an average of 23.1 points per game! They are also shooting 72% FG at the rim since the All Star break! They will face the Blazers tonight, who will be on a terrible physical spot. Portland's transition defense has been poor lately and they have allowed 26, 23, 14 and 22 fast break points on their last four games. They allowed 22 fast break points to the Bulls last night and that says a lot about their transition defense right now.
The Hawks's gameplan for tonight will certainly be to set a fast pace in tonight's game to take advantage of their spot edge and also their edge on transitions and at the rim. So, the key in here will be what Portland's offense will be able to do tonight. And I believe they will be fine. LaMarcus Aldrdige will have a decent edge over Atlanta's poor post up defense, while the Hawks's perimeter defense has been poor since the All Star break with 41% FG allowed from 16-23 feet and 38% 3pts! Therefore, I expect this contest to be a high scoring one and so, I'll be taking the Over in here.
