NBA Premium Play 03/18: Portland Trailblazers @ Philadelphia 76ers

NBA - 505 Portland Trailblazers @ 506 Philadelphia 76ers

Projected Lines: 199 points | Philadelphia by 4 points

Portland is coming from a home span that ended with two easy games against the super banged up Knicks and the lowly Pistons. The Blazers will now play at Philadelphia, so they had to make a long travel and so, their spot for tonight isn't great. Portland had a super offensive game against Detroit, but that's not a surprise as the Pistons's defense is non-existent right now. The Blazers's frontcourt did whatever they wanted to do on that game, with LaMarcus Aldridge having 13-21 FG, 31 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists in 38 minutes! Portland also shot 24-34 (71%) FG at the rim. This was enough for them to pick up the win, even though their backcourt struggled both offensively and especially defensively, where the Blazers looked quite poor on this area. In fact, Detroit hadn't scored more than 100 points on their last eight games, but they immediately scored 57 points against Portland in the first half. The Pistons actually struggled on their perimeter shooting with 2-11 FG 16-23 feet and 5-17 3pts, but their guards impressed on pick and roll ball handler plays, where they were able to easily penetrate into the basket without any kind of resistance from the Blazers's guards and with also no team help from Portland's frontcourt! This is why Detroit shot 9-14 FG on pick and roll ball handler plays on this contest for 1.25 PPP! Will Bynum shot 10-14 FG, Rodney Stuckey 12-23 FG and Jose Calderon 5-8 FG! If Portland keeps defending like this, they won't be winning a lot of games in the future.

The bad news for the Blazers is that Philadelphia will expose their poor backcourt defense tonight, as with Jrue Holiday playing very well right now, he will attack the basket with pick and rolls, so he will have a big game tonight, as Portland doesn't pressure on defense at all. Besides that, Philadelphia's frontcourt is also playing at a good level, with Spencer Hawes coming from a monster game against Indiana, while Thaddeus Young's speed will be a massive problem for LaMarcus Aldridge. Portland's interior defense is far from being good, so the Sixers's offense will have edges tonight in both backcourt and frontcourt. On the other hand, Portland's offense is very similar to Philadelphia's, so we can expect LaMarcus Aldrdige having an offensive edge down low over Philadelphia's post up defense that is just #27 in the league, while Portland's shooters should also have a decent edge tonight, as they will be shooting the ball rather well from the outside lately. However, due to Philadelphia's superior overall defense, I expect the Sixers to pick up another home win on a high scoring game. Therefore, I'll be taking both Philadelphia and the Over in here.
