NBA Premium Play 02/20: Memphis Grizzlies @ Toronto Raptors

NBA - 701 Memphis Grizzlies @ 702 Toronto Raptors

Projected Line: Memphis by 5 points

***DOUBLE DIME PLAY***

Toronto is currently on a nice 5-game winning streak, but it's clear that the future isn't looking very bright for them with their offense continues showing no flow whatsoever. The Raptors are coming from a road win at Washington last night, but it was the third time in a row that they were completely outrebounded, while the Raptors were also lucky that the Wizards didn't take advantage of Toronto's poor inside defense as much as they should have. The same happened against the Knicks at NY, but that's more understandable on this case, as the Knicks are the team that attempts more treys per game in the league. Toronto allowed just 32 and 38 points in the paint on their last two games, but that has more to do with the philosophy of their opponents than with any kind of decent interior defense. A good proof of that is the fact that a shorthanded and tired Denver team crushed them with 70 points scored in the paint! Toronto is also showing little flow on offense, with too many contested jump shots. In their last two games, they attempted 29 FG at the rim versus 42 FG from 16-23 feet and 41 treys! Obviously, something is very wrong with their shot location!

The Raptors had enough basketball to beat Washington, but I heavily doubt that they will do the same tonight against the Grizzlies. Memphis is currently playing their best basketball of the season, they are dominating the boards, they are pounding their opponents down low with 50, 48 and 62 points in the paint on their last three games, so the Grizzlies will definitely have a huge edge down low tonight, with Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol facing Amir Johnson, Jonas Valanciunas and Andrea Bargnani. Memphis's defense is creating a lot of turnovers and when they face a stagnant offense like the Raptors, it's easier for an elite defensive team like Memphis to force turnovers. Not only Toronto's offense will struggle against Memphis's defense, but we have also the "bonus" of the Grizzlies's offense being on their best moment of the season. Memphis dished 28, 26, 30, 21 and 29 assists on their last five games and they have little in common nowadays with that struggling Grizzlies's offense that would struggle big time to get open shots earlier on the season. With Rudy Gay fired up for facing his former team tonight, he will force even more shots and this will be even better for the Grizzlies's defense. I expect a comfortable win for Memphis tonight and so, I'll be taking them on a Double Dime Play.
