NBA Premium Play 02/13: San Antonio Spurs @ Cleveland Cavaliers

NBA - 703 San Antonio Spurs @ 704 Cleveland Cavaliers

Projected Line: San Antonio by 4 points

Coach Popovich has decided to use Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker in tonight's game and so, of course the Spurs's line for this game went from -3 to -7! However, these three players will obviously play limited numbers and I doubt that their effort will be big on this game. After all, this is their last game before the All Star break and so, risking an injury right now would simply be stupid. San Antonio continues having a decent road trip, with just one loss at Detroit. However, the Spurs have been completely outrebounded in all their recent games, as they have just grabbed 44,91%, 41.23%, 41.44% and 32.21% of the rebounds on their last four contests! During this span, San Antonio has allowed 23, 20, 17 and 20 offensive rebounds to their opponents! Their offense has been excellent, while their defense has been also playing very well.

However, as weird as it may look, Cleveland is nowadays a much tougher matchup for San Antonio than Brooklyn and Chicago were. Cleveland's offense has been great lately, with Kyrie Irving playing extremely well. The Cavaliers's new bench has also been playing great offense everytime they enter the game and in an open wide game like today's, I trust a lot more on the Cavaliers's offensive skills to be competitive tonight than I did on both the Nets's and the Bulls's offenses! The Cavaliers's main problem is their lack of consistency, like it happens with all the lowly teams. They have a nice winning streak, they got and suddenly they start losing big once again. This was exactly what happened on their last game against Minnesota. However, the Coach Byron Scott decided to take some measures to prevent any lack of focus during tonight's game by turning the team's practice into a film session that lasted more than two hours:

“We’re going to throw this game away and focus on tomorrow,” Scott said. “I said my piece as far as some things guys needed to hear. I also said enough of this talk. You’ve got to start doing what you’re supposed to do every single night. It can’t be three or four games where we come out and play hard, then two or three games where we don’t. If you really are serious about winning and getting better as a team, you’ve got to compete every single night. Pretty simple.”

Therefore, I expect a much better effort from the Cavaliers tonight. Given San Antonio's spot for tonight, I believe the Cavaliers will be competitive tonight and on a tight game down the stretch, keep an eye on Kyrie Irving because this kid is really special. I'll be taking Cleveland tonight.
