NBA 02/23 Game Previews Articles

Game Recap 02/22: Denver Nuggets @ Washington Wizards

With this loss, Denver is now 0-4 on their last four road games. I didn't see any sense of urgency from Denver last night. In fact, they only defended in the fourth quarter, where they managed to make a nice late comeback that made them just fell short at the end. The Nuggets's defensive effort during the first three quarters was ridiculous. Not only Emeka Okafor and Nene Hilario dominated the game down low, as the Nuggets, one of the best rebounding teams in the league, were outrebounded by 13 on the glass, while grabbing just 40% of the rebounds. Denver's perimeter defense was also atrocious to complete their complete defensive disaster last night. Washington is one of the worst shooting teams in the league, but with space and especially with some good rhythm, they can score and indeed they scored last night with 7-14 FG from 16-23 feet and 11-24 treys!

On the other hand, nobody from Washington was able to stop Ty Lawson's dribble penetrations and so, he had a nice game with 27 points and 12 assists. Danilo Gallinari played with a minor injury and Denver really struggled on 3pts shooting with just 4-22! This bad shooting combined with their inability of grabbing offensive rebounds was the main reason why they got outscored by 14-30 during the third quarter. Also note for the Wizards's transition defense that showed last night where they are #2 in the league by allowing Denver to shoot just 9-19 FG on transition plays for just 1.00 PPP (Points Per Possession)!
