Oakland is coming from a struggling series at Pittsburgh, where they couldn't hit above .200 BA in any of these three games! In fact, Oakland is just #22 over the last 14 days in terms of offense. They will face John Lackey, who allowed two runs in seven innings at LA against the Angels. This was Lackey's fifth quality start in a row, while posting a 2.25 ERA, 1.028 WHIP and 36/4 K/BB ratio! Oakland's offense hasn't been patient lately and so, I believe Lackey will pick up another quality outing tonight.
Jarrod Parker will start for the Athletics, who allowed three runs (two earned) over 6.1 innings against Kansas City. Five of Parker's last six outings were subpar, with the exception being at Texas, where he dominated the struggling at the time Rangers. Parker seems due to regress with his ERA being inferior to his FIP, xFIP and SIERA, so "nothing better" than the best offensive team in the league to pound him tonight. Lackey is in great form right now and with the Red Sox pounding Parker tonight, I believe Boston has excellent value as underdogs tonight.
