NFL Week 5 Premium Play 10/11: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Tennessee Titans

NFL Week 6 - 101 Pittsburgh Steelers @ 102 Tennessee Titans

Projected Line: 47 points

I expect this game to be a high scoring contest. Pittsburgh is coming from a great home win against Philadelphia last Sunday, where their veteran defense looked like top class as it has been usual over the past decade by completely stopping both the passing and the running game of the Eagles. However, we have to remember that they were on a wonderful spot and this was the main reason why their veteran defense was capable of having such a dominant performance. Now on a short week spot and with both S Troy Polamalu and LB LaMarr Woodley out for this contest, I don't expect the Steelers to be as good defensively on this contest as they were last Sunday. I know Tennessee is definitely struggling a bit on offense right now, however Matt Hasselbeck is a very experienced quarterback and with a good offensive line around him plus a receivers corps with some quality, I believe he will be able to expose the Steelers' defense poor physical spot for this contest, in a similar way veteran quarterback Carson Palmer also did to them back in week 3, where Oakland was able to score 34 points against Pittsburgh.

But while I expect the Steelers to have a defensive letdown on this contest, I also believe the Titans will continue to struggle big time defensively, especially on their secondary. Tennessee looked horrible once again last week in Minnesota on their pass defense by allowing Christian Ponder to make several big plays to his receivers, especially to Percy Harvin. The Titans are definitely making the passing game of their opponents look really good, as they are allowing 74,6% of completions (#32 in the league), 7.9 Y/A (#26) and a QB rating of 112.4 (#31) to their opponents! Pittsburgh has a good passing game, with QB Ben Roethlisberger having a good season, their receiver corps looking good as well and with their offensive line looking a bit better than usual. Even though the Steelers' passing game looked at times a bit off sync last week against the Eagles, that was mostly due to the fact they were coming from a bye week, but they should already be at their best on this game. Ben Roethlisberger is currently averaging a 100.6 QB rating and has a 8/1 TD/INT ratio, so I believe he will help his team torch the poor Titans defense. This should be even easier to accomplish, as RB Rashard Mendenhall returned last week in excellent form and he was able to give the boost the Steelers' running game was needing very badly. With the running game giving good support to a passing game that should torch on its own Tennessee's defense, I believe Pittsburgh is into a very good offensive game on this game.

Therefore, I believe Pittsburgh is going to have a very good offensive game on this contest, while Tennessee should also surprise a few people by producing some decent yardage on this contest as well, due to Pittsburgh's veteran defense being on a poor physical spot and missing two key defenders as well. I expect this game to eventually become a high scoring game and so, I'll be taking the Over in here.
