This is a bad spot for Baltimore, after having to travel to Texas last Friday to beat the Rangers on the road in the Wild Card game. So, the Yankees will be much more prepared for today's game and they'll start CC Sabathia, who is on his best moment of the season right now, just like the Yankees are. When Sabathia returned from the DL last month, he had some problems, as he wasn't 100% confident and around that time, he struggled in a start against Baltimore. However, on his last three starts, CC Sabathia was already at his best level by going deep in the games with eight innings on each game, while having a 11/2, 10/1 and 7/1 K/BB ratio. He also had 2.25/3.34/3.55, 2.25/0.97/1.34 and 0.00/1.47/2.57 ERA/FIP/xFIP in those three games. Therefore, I believe the combination of CC Sabathia and Soriano should be enough to handle an unprepared Orioles offense tonight.
On the other side, Baltimore will start Hammel, who is yet to throw since early September. He has been one of most consistent SP's of the team, but he has no rhythm right now and so, he will be on a horrible spot by having to pitch immediately in a playoff game against the red hot Yankees. The NY team is now living their best moment of the season, as they had a .797 OPS in September and an incredible .892 OPS over the last 14 days. I believe Hammel is into a very troubling outing and therefore, I expect a comfortable win for the Yankees and so, I'll be taking them in here.
