Jeff Samardzija has been one of the best pitchers in the league this season with a 2.85 ERA, 3.01 FIP and 3.11 xFIP! He has been also having some great K/BB ratios and he is also coming from three great starts against Colorado at home and then at Pittsburgh and at Chicago against the White Sox. Unfortunately, his record isn't as good as expected, as he has been suffering with a clear lack of run support in some outings. Fortunately for him, the Cubs' lineup has been red hot with 5-0 on their last five games with 5, 7, 9, 8 and 7 runs scored. Therefore, Samardzija has a great chance to pick up the win today.
They will be facing the Diamondbacks, who will start Ian Kennedy today. Kennedy missed his last start due to home accident where he cut his hand while doing dishes. He has been pitching better lately, but I think the red hot Cubs' lineup will be a tough matchup for him. He is a flyball pitcher and tonight the wind will be blowing out to center field at 5-15 mph. I see the Cubs picking up an easy win tonight and so, I'll be taking them in here.
