MLB - 959 Atlanta Braves @ 960 St Louis Cardinals
(Starting Pitchers: P. Maholm vs J. Kelly)
This should be a good series, especially as the Cardinals got swept at Atlanta recently. Paul Maholm is returning from the DL tonight and he only made one rehab start. He was struggling prior going to the DL with 7, 4, 4 and 4 earned runs allowed in four of his last five starts, so I don't expect him to be impressive on his return tonight. This will be his first start of the season against the Cardinals, but he has poor career numbers against the Cardinals' lineup with .296 BA and .909 OPS in 169 AB's!
Joe Kelly will start for St Louis and he has been solid as a SP. He has been walking a few batters, something that prevents him from going very deep into his starts, but with a great 4.8% HR/FB rate and a nice .224 BA, he will be a tough matchup for the Braves. Kelly has been great in August with a 1.99 ERA, 3.25 FIP and 4.35 xFIP and he had a good outing at Atlanta earlier in the season with no runs allowed in 6.1 innings. I give the edge to the Cardinals tonight, who will play at home and with revenge against Maholm, who is coming from the DL tonight.

MLB - 961 Pittsburgh Pirates @ 962 San Francisco Giants
(Starting Pitchers: J. Locke vs M. Cain)
Jeff Locke will start for the Pirates tonight and he has been in regression mode lately. With a 1.51 K/BB ratio, it was inevitable that he would regress eventually and he is currently with a 12.0% K% vs 13.3% BB% in August! Pittsburgh is currently trying to protect, but that won't be the case tonight and he will play tonight with just 4 days of rest. Therefore, I expect San Francisco to pound him today.
Matt Cain will start for the Giants tonight and after a poor start, he has been excellent lately with a 2.41 ERA, 3.06 FIP and 3.76 xFIP since the All-Star break! Now against a Pirates' offense that is hitting just .216 BA versus RH pitchers on their last 10 games, I believe San Francisco will have a clear SP edge for tonight and so, I'll be taking them in here.

MLB - 967 Chicago White Sox @ 968 Kansas City Royals
(Starting Pitchers: J. Quintana vs J. Shields)
After a 17-3 run, the Royals are now struggling due to subpar pitching and especially poor offense. The White Sox are one of the worst road teams in the league, but they are now 5-0 on their last 5 road games and they'll try to sweep the Royals tonight. James Shields will start for Kansas City and he is coming from a nice win at Detroit, where he didn't allow a single earned run in seven innings. However, his command has been terrible with a combined of 15/16 K/BB on their last five games! Thanks to this, I believe the confident White Sox will put him in trouble tonight, as they are currently hitting .279 BA on their last 10 games against RH pitchers.
Jose Quintana will start for the White Sox and he had a poor start against Minnesota at home, where he allowed five earned runs in five innings. However, he bounced back on his last outing against the same Twins on the road by allowing just two earned runs in 6.2 innings. Quintana has been very consistent lately, but sometimes with a high P/IP. He has faced the Royals three times this season and he was solid in all outings, with 2, 2 and 3 earned runs allowed. Kansas City is just hitting .214 BA versus LH pitchers on their last 10 games, so I believe Quintana will have another solid outing tonight and allow his team to be very competitive in here.
