This will be a bad matchup for the Knicks, considering the style of the Hornets. The Knicks are coming from an easy win over Sacramento, in a wide open game where the Knicks had no problems in scoring at the rim against the worst rim defense in the league: 17-21 FG at the rim. The Knicks also scored easy points in transition with 5-7 FG! Defensively, the Knicks had no problems, as Sacramento completely self-destroyed on offense with an absurd number of perimeter shots: 8-20 FG from 16-23 feet and 4-18 3pts!
Now against the Hornets, things will be different. New Orleans will make this game a slow paced game, so it will be hard for the Knicks to score easy points tonight. First of all, Jarrett Jack is probable, so the Hornets will have two PG's again in Vazquez and Jack. However, I wouldn't be surprised if coach Williams decides to put Ariza defending Lin in moments of the game, as the Knicks lack a SF who can create his own shot, as Melo is still out. The Hornets have been playing with Kaman and Ayon in the starting frontcourt. Even though Ayon is undersized, he is a hustle guy! One of the secrets of these two recent wins of the Hornets at home against Utah and then on the road in Milwaukee was their offensive rebound edge of +5 and +9 edge in those games.
The Knicks may have a lot of momentum, but with this being a good physical spot against a lowly team, this won't be an easy spot for them to handle mentality. I actually believe the Knicks will be a bit sloppy on this game! Therefore, look for the Hornets to make this game competitive due to their superiority on the boards and so, I'll take New Orleans tonight.
