NBA Premium Play 05/13: Los Angeles Clippers @ Memphis Grizzlies

NBA - 759 Los Angeles Clippers @ 760 Memphis Grizzlies

Projected line: 172 points | Memphis by 12 points

Memphis started Game 6 quite well with their big men dominating the game, however they had as their gameplan to attack the Clippers on the possessions and even though they had success in that with 8-8 FG in transitions, Memphis also committed a huge number of turnovers. I remember seeing Speights attempting an outlet pass from his own basket that obviously was intercepted by a Clippers player. With Blake and Paul not being able to get back in defense, Memphis took over the lead.

In fact, the only reason why the Clippers stayed in the game was due to their bench. Bledsoe, Martin and Evans outmuscled everyone on the Grizzlies side and by playing great defense and crushing the offensive glass, the Clippers were trailing by just 4 points at the half, with Memphis shooting 46% FG versus just 37% FG from the Clippers, but with the Grizzlies also committing 13 turnovers, while the Clippers only committed 3, besides an 18-7 edge from the Clippers bench!

In the second half, the same thing happened, as the Clippers 10-0 run in the beginning of the 4th quarter was with 3 bench players from the Clippers on the court. However, down the stretch, Blake and Paul didn't have enough conditions to fight. In fact, Paul had 2 TO, 0-1 FG and 1-2 FT in the 4th quarter! Memphis still choked by missing 5 free throws, but the Clippers' lack of energy was evident.

For today, we can't forget that this game represents a brutal physical spot for the players. Game 6 was played last Friday at 9PM EST in LA and now they will play an 1PM EST game in Memphis, after a long trip. I doubt both Paul and Blake will have time to be at 100% for today and Del Negro won't have any other option than using Bledson, Martin and Evans once again and these players are an upgrade on hustle, rebounding and defensive, while offensively, they had very little to the team. Bledsoe has been creating something with his speed, but the Grizzlies are already warned to stop him this time.

In terms of the Grizzlies offense, everything will depend from Gasol and Randolph. I believe they will dominate the game in some phases of it, but I don't expect that to happen throughout the whole game, as the Clippers frontcourt will physically punish them hard. Game 6 was played at a faster pace than usual due to the turnovers that Memphis committed that resulted in transition plays favoring the Clippers. However, I expect Memphis to be more conservative on offense today, trying to use their big men and with that, I expect a slow paced game in here. With both teams struggling on offense due to the brutal spot, I'm taking the Under in here. I'm also taking Memphis today, as with Clippers with Blake and Paul being far from 100% right now, their bench won't be enough to hang with Memphis for the whole game today.
