NBA Premium Play 05/11: Memphis Grizzlies @ Los Angeles Clippers

NBA - 743 Memphis Grizzlies @ 744 Los Angeles Clippers

Projected line: 172 points | Memphis by 4

***DOUBLE DIME PLAY***

***ADDED PLAY***

Memphis won Game 5 and they are once again in a must win situation, this time in LA. They were up by 75-51 midway the 3rd quarter, but allowed a 20-4 run to the Clippers, who scared the Grizzlies down the stretch. Memphis is a better team in my opinion, more balanced and with better depth, this mentally inconsistency from them is worrying.

Memphis started the Game 5 very well and the key for that was their two frontcourt players getting a good body position early on the possession to attack the paint. They caught the Clippers frontcourt off guard and even in some possessions, I saw Marc Gasol simply outrunning the Clippers big men for easy dunks in transition. With that, Memphis scored 36 points in the first quarter and the duo Gasol/Randolph reached half time with these superb numbers: Gasol had 18 points from 8-11 FG with 4 ast and 3reb, while Randolph had 15 points with 6-7 FG, 5reb and 1ast! However, already during the 2nd quarter, the Clippers made the right adjustments, as they use some zone defense and DeAndre Jordan was quickly benched. After that, Gasol and Randolph combined 0-7 FG in the entire second half. Once again, I saw the same thing that I had already seen in the previous game: the Clippers big men, especially Evans, play so hard that both Gasol and Randolph ran out of gas down the stretch. Evans may be useless on the offensive end besides grabbing offensive boards, but by constantly banging against Randolph all the time, Randolph  lacks the stamina to perform at his best the whole game. Without their big players being involved on offense, Memphis is easy to defend, as Conley, Mayo and Gay don't generate good looks by themselves. After their 36pts 1st quarter outburst, Memphis was help to 21-20-15 points in the following 3 quarters, with only 7 points scored in the last 5 minutes of the games and with 5 of them being scored via free throws!

On the other side, we have Paul and Blake banged up and these two players are the only ones who can create something offensively for the team. The Clippers had just 11 assists in the last game and only 12 made shots from 9 feet or less. In fact, 60% of their shots were from 16 feet or further and without a good ball movement, the majority of those shots were contested. Actually, I have to give some credit to Mo Williams to knock them down some tough shots in the second half, but this receipt of offensive basketball won't generate points in half court and now, things only got worse with Paul and Blake banged up.

The pace of the last 2 games was the slowest of the whole series so far and I expect a similar pace for tonight and with both teams struggling on offense so much, I'll be taking the Under in here in a Double Dime Play!

NOTE: I'm also playing the Grizzlies Moneyline as my Single Dime Play!
