NBA Premium Card 12/11

NBA - 501 Miami Heat @ 502 Indiana Pacers

Play #1 & 2

Finally we have a chance to watch the two best teams of the Eastern Conference battle each other. For this particular game, I think that the Pacers will be too strong for Miami due to their superior edge on the boards.

The Heat frontcourt has been subpar lately as Chris Bosh is struggling; Haslem just can’t play more than 10 minutes per game; Chris Andersen’s rebounds numbers aren’t good; Oden is still out while Beasley really won’t count for this kind of game. Naturally it isn’t a surprise that the Heat in their L9 games is yet to “win” a boards battle against their opponents. In fact, their reb/rate% is just 42.7% - just awful! Obviously the Pacers will dominate the Heat on the glass while West + Hibbert will have some serious edge down low.

Miami offense bounced back pretty well L2 games after being pounded by the Bulls against the Timberwolves and the Pistons due to their ability to score in transition: they scored 24 & 26 fast break points in those 2 games. It helped the fact that both the Pistons and the Wolves are 2 fast paced teams and ranked #23 & #26 in defending fast break points. This won’t be the case against the best defensive transition team in the league. The Pacers w/ Paul George won’t double team LeBron James on the post so the Heat biggest edge on offense will be minimized, surely James will have a great scoring game if he’s aggressive but I doubt about the Heat’s role players.

NBA - 511 Oklahoma City Thunder @ 512 Atlanta Hawks

Play #5

Jeff Teague is the X factor for this Hawks team and when he struggles, the Hawks are automatically in trouble and that’s what I expect for them tonight against the Thunder. Teague’s dribble drive penetration is one of the biggest factors of Kyle Korver’s 3pts streak record as his ability to pass for the open man on the outside is key. However when Teague struggles and we have some examples of that:

@WAS: 5-18 FG & 5/5 A/TO ratio
@HOU: 0-5 FG & 6/3 A/TO ratio
vs ORL: 4-11 FG & 6/4 A/TO ratio
vs BOS: 3-15 FG & 10/2 A/TO ratio
@MIA: 4-13 FG & 7/4 A/TO

As you can guess, all those games ended up with a Hawks loss. Russell Westbrook will be a tough matchup for him tonight and OKC’s length and athleticism in protecting the rim will make tough for ATL’s sharp ball movement.

ATL doesn’t have a strong interior defense so I expect OKC to have a good offensive game in attacking the rim. I also expect OKC to play some small ball w/ Durant @PF just because he can deal with Millsap on the defensive end and OKC’s small ball lineup is really great offensively
