Soccer World Cup Play 06/16: Iran vs. Nigeria

Soccer World Cup Play: Iran vs. Nigeria

***DOUBLE DIME PLAY***

In an exciting World Cup w/ some great offensive minded football, this contest could be painful to watch…

We are dealing with two teams that aren’t comfortable in taking control of the game and go forward to create offensive open-plays. Instead, both teams are designed to laid back defensively while trying to score in transition, and obviously, the matchup between them isn’t appellative at all for those who want to see good football and goals.

There isn’t much information about Iran. All I need to know is that their NT coach is Carlos Queiroz – a Portuguese coach w/ a defensive minded approach that usually makes a good job on a defensive perspective. They lack the proper offensive talent, and being Queiroz a smart coach, I expect them to be ultra conservative today. Note that they played two friendly games vs. European teams before this tournament (vs. Belarus and Montenegro) and not surprisingly, both games ended 0-0 FT.

On the other side we can expect Nigeria to have a considerable expected physical edge over Iran. Nigeria has some great speed on the front with their forwards, but all of them are more suitable to play in quick, counter attack style where they have some space to make forward runs – something that Iran won’t allow such space.

The biggest Nigerian problem is in the midfield… indeed, they have some pace and are aggressive, but they don’t simply have much offensive talent… When their most skilled player is Obi Mikel who plays @ defensive midfielder for England’s Chelsea, then we know that they will struggle to create chances to score goals in open-plays.

My fair totals line for this contest is a pure 2-goals line and therefore, we have some good value to make a play w/ UNDER in here.
