NBA Roundup News 12/13

Dwight Howard in Orlando?

Just one day after he criticized team management for not acquiring the players he likes, Howard almost did a total abrupt about-face Monday. He indicated he could be persuaded to stay if team officials are "willing to change."
"There's no place I would rather be but here in Orlando," Howard said as he was surrounded by reporters and cameramen during the Magic's media day at Amway Center.

"And I just want to make sure that we have the right things here so we can win a championship. And I'm all about change. If you're willing to change and you're willing to do what it takes to win, then, you know, you've got me.""

Lakers keep searching “big moves”

"We are pursuing big deals right now," said Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak on Monday. "More than one big deal."

Kupchak broke his silence following a frenzied four days that saw a trade nixed by NBA commissioner David Stern that would have landed Chris Paul in L.A. and ultimately ended up with Lamar Odom being shipped to Dallas for no players in return.

While no trade is imminent and Kupchak said he "expects" the Lakers' core Big Three of Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum to be together for the season, the GM explained why the franchise has shifted its philosophy from standing pat with the group that made it to three of the last four NBA Finals."

Center Marc Gasol, Grizzlies agree to four-year deal
“I’m proud to say that we have reached a tentative agreement with my team @memgrizz,” Gasol wrote on Twitter. “Can’t wait to get on the court with all my teammates!”

Warriors Sign center Kwame Brown

Having struck out on attempts to acquire free-agent centers Tyson Chandler and DeAndre Jordan and All-Star point guard Chris Paul, the Warriors on Tuesday signed 2001 No. 1 overall pick Kwame Brown to a one-year, $7 million contract.

Nuggets Trade For Rudy Fernandez And Corey Brewer From Mavericks

The Nuggets acquired shooting guards Rudy Fernandez and Corey Brewer from Dallas, a source said, in exchange for a future second-round pick.

The Nuggets were able to make the deal because of a trade exception acquired during the big Carmelo Anthony trade.
Fernandez could possibly start for Denver at shooting guard. He averaged 8.6 points per game for the Trail Blazers? last season - he was traded to Dallas in the summer.

Baron Davis in New York?

If the Knicks can't get Jamal Crawford to accept their $2.5 million exception and have his agent, Andy Miller, help swing a three-team trade, interim general manager Glen Grunwald has a fallback plan — sore-backed point guard Baron Davis.

Sources said Davis will either be waived via the amnesty clause or waived outright Friday. The latter is better for the Knicks.

From @MikeWellsNBA, Jamal Crawford apparently has turned down the Pacers 2 yr, $10 million down offer, according to a source; source says Jamal Crawford is now considering offers from New York, Portland and Sacramento.

Lakers PF Derrick Caracter injured a knee in yesterday's practice. He's getting medical tests now. Might be serious.
