The Nets are coming from a weird win yesterday that would have never happened if they were facing an experienced NBA team, as they wouldn't be able to comeback from a 20 points deficit, especially considering the lack of quality of their roster! The only explanation for this comeback win from the Nets is that they made a huge effort to comeback in the game, while Washington relaxed and paid the price at the end. Note that NJN had an offensive rebound rate/% of 39.6 vs 18.8 from WAS! At the same time, the Nets bench was a complete disaster! Here are some +/- team points from the Nets bench players: Mehmet Okur 20min -6; Sundiata Gaines 18min +3; Shawne Williams 12min -15; Sheldon Williams 9min -19; The main core of the Nets were the ones who carried the team to this win, however at the cost of a big effort with heavy minutes! Humphries played 36min, D. James 40min and Deron 36min! We are talking about a team short in talent and I don't believe they will be able to repeat such effort tonight. Also note that they were simply a jump shooting team, as they shot just 8-11 FG at the rim, in comparison with 6-23 from the 3pts line! With heavy legs and without the chance of scoring easy shots near the basket, I expect the Nets to heavily struggle offensively on this game.
On the other side, Atlanta has a consolidated roster and even though they aren't a top team, they are a strong team and they will have their advanced team chemistry as big edge for tonight when compared with the majority of the other teams. They will be capable of shutting down the Nets offense, while Horford will have a clear matchup edge vs Petro & Okur. Therefore, I expect an easy win for Atlanta today in their first game of the season.
