For a team who is clearly entering the season in bad shape to be forced to play back to back games and the 4th game in 6 days, this is surely a very tough spot for Dallas. Yesterday at Oklahoma City, Marion played 31 minutes, Nowitzki played 39 minutes, Kidd played 35 minutes and Terry logged in for 32 minutes! They were competitive for the whole game due to the successive errors of the Thunder, especially with turnovers and a bit of ORR edge because once again, they weren't able to spot an athletic team, as the fact that Oklahoma City shot a whooping 59% FG clearly shows. For this game, the Mavs defense will have some space to breath, as Toronto isn't an athletic team as Miami, Denver or Oklahoma City are. Toronto's offense is clearly still a work in progress, as their head coach Dwayne Casey has admmited for several times and so, I expect Dallas' defense to to a much better job than they did in their previous contests this season.
On the other side, the main question is if the Mavs offense will be able to be explosive on this super bad spot. Note that coach Casey is former assistant coach in Dallas and he is a defensive specialist, as it was clearly demonstrated in the first two games of the season, where the Raptors held their opponents to shoot under 42% FG! Considering the Mavs are currently shooting 40.7% FG for the season and they are such in a bad spot, I don't believe they will be able to do a good job offensively, especially against a team coached by someone who knows them so well and who is leading the Raptors into a quite acceptable defensive team!
Therefore, considering Dallas' bad spot and Toronto's improvements on defense, I have a projection of 188 points for this contest, well below the totals line currently offered. So, I'll take the under in here.
I'll also be taking Toronto on this game, considering Dallas' very tough spot and Toronto's improvement on defense and knowledge that their head coach has on their tonight's opponent.
