Generally a game where the two teams combine offensive efficiency numbers of 208.5 would never be enough for an outcome of 213 points like it happened in yesterday's game between Portland and Denver. That was only possible due to an extreme fast pace of 102.1(!), the fastest game of the season so far.

Denver struggled on offense as I expected, as they are not a good shooting team and in a home-road b2b spot vs a team with good defensive wing players, the struggles were expected and the Nuggets didn't disappoint me by shooting 4-18 FG from 16-23 feet and 4-20 from behind the arc! I used my synergy account and I saw that the Nuggets shot 6-22 FG on spot-up plays, an evident sign that they struggled in shooting the ball last night. The only chance they had in scoring last night against the Blazers would be in easy points in transition or via the free throw line and Portland helped them in a way that I wasn't expecting at all.

By playing in the frenetic style of the Nuggets, one of the best teams in taking care of the ball ended up committing 25 turnovers, which originated 29 points off turnovers, 28 fast break points and 12-25 FG in transition for the Nuggets. If it wasn't for this struggle of Portland and the Nuggets wouldn't even have scored 90 points last night! Portland is 3-0 to start the season, but this playing style won't work for them at a long term because the Blazers, unlike Denver, don't have a deep roster and a sign of that was that their head coach Nate McMillan used just 8 players in the rotations in yesterday's game, with Kurt Thomas playing for just 12 minutes.

At the pace that last night's game was played and with just eight players in the rotation, if Portland had to play today a back to back game, they would be in a huge problem, as they simply wouldn't have had the legs to be competitive and we already know how tough this season's schedule is for everybody.

Portland began the season with three home games and they took advantage of that, however when the road games on back to back spots arrive, we will see how will the team adapt to this new playing style.
