Detroit is coming from a loss in Dallas, where they were outscored by 29-50 in the second half! The Pistons ran out of gas and Greg Monroe's terrible game were the reason for that. Detroit shot just 13-31 FG at the rim, with Monroe having 3-13 FG at the rim and 4-17 FG overall! Detroit also shot 0-11 FG on post up plays, while their outside shooting was also quite poor. The 13 turnovers they had during the second half only helped in their self-destruction. Detroit's tiredness also allowed Dallas to score 35 fast break points, while shooting 12-19 FG in transitions.
Greg Monroe was upset with himself after the game and I expect him to bounce back tonight: “I gotta convert those, there are no excuses,” Monroe said. “My teammates played too hard tonight for me not to convert those. Makeable shots. Not converting those shots is unacceptable.”
The Pistons will now face Cleveland, who is coming from a double overtime game, where Anderson Varejao played 47 minutes! The Cavaliers are #27 in post ups defense, so this is a great matchup for Monroe to bounce back! Cleveland has the worst interior defense in the league, as they are just #23 in paint defense with 42.0 ppg allowed and #30 in rim defense by allowing 74% FG on that area. Detroit with their big lineup has a great shot of pounding the Cavaliers down low.
Cleveland's offense, even without Kyrie Irving on the field, has followed their usual principles. They use pick and roll ball handler plays a lot, while using 13% volume of isolation plays, 22% of spot up plays and 11% of transition plays. Detroit has been a top 10 defensive team against spot ups and transitions, while they are #20 on pick and roll ball handler defense. This is a good spot for Detroit and especially Greg Monroe to bounce back, so I believe the Pistons will pound the Cavaliers down low, in order to get an easy win tonight. I'm taking Detroit tonight.
