NFL Premium Card 09/29

NFL Pick #1 & #2: 273 New England Patriots @ 274 Kansas City Chiefs
Rating: 3 units - Single Dime Play
Pick: 274 Kansas City Chiefs (+3) @ -120 / 1.83 on 5 Dimes
Pick: Under 47.5 @ -110 / 1.91 on Bookmaker
Detailed Write up:

I expect this contest to be a tight game w/ both defenses having a considerable edge in the matchups. NE offense is not “clicking” for several reasons: bad OL, Gronk is not healthy and Brady looks a bit “shaky. KC defense will be a tough matchup for them due to pressure they will make on the front, they are ranked #3 in the league in Pass Protection – adj. sack rate w/ 8.3%! KC’s defense has been poor vs. run but NE’s offensive running game is struggling as well – ranked #20 in the league. Note that against OAK last week, NE ran for 76 yds w/ 32 carries & 2.4 yds/avg! With yesterday’s game vs. MIA, OAK has now allowed 212, 188 & 157 rushing yards on the other 3 games! That’s not a good sign for NE's rushing unit!

On the other end, we have KC’s Jamal Charles returning to action and we all know how important he is for KC! KC will try to dictate the tempo of the game, keep the ball possession and do damage on the ground. NE’s defense has been by far their biggest unit and therefore, I also think that in this matchup the defensive side will prevail.

My fair line in here is KC PK line & 44 points and that’s why I’m taking KC + UNDER as my plays!

NFL Pick #1: 301 Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ 302 Atlanta Falcons
Rating: 3 units - Single Dime Play
Pick:
301 Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+7) @ -125 / 1.80 on Bookmaker
Detailed Write Up:

Basically we have ATL having the edge on the offensive end while the Bucs have clearly the edge in defense. I feel that TB’s offense will perform better tonight vs. the first 2 games of the season. After all, Josh McCown faced two tough DL’s in CAR & STL and this ATL DL can’t put pressure on the opposing QB’s. TB running game has been excellent, so I expect them once again to do some damage vs. ATL poor running defense and control the flow of the game as well. Obviously, M. Ryan at home is great and ATL’s offense will score some points (I had small lean w/ OVER) but I think that this contest will be a tight one and therefore, I’m taking TB+7 (key number) tonight.

NOTE: 2 NFL plays for tonight. It's not usual playing two road teams @ MNF as home teams have been killing it lately, but I think that we are getting some value with them. I made the decision to pay some juice in order to get the 3-pts key number w/ San Diego even though I expect them to win this contest. On the other game, the Giants should be only a FG (3pts) underdogs according to my numbers, so we should be fine grabbing this 4.5/5pts line. Good luck!

NFL Super Bowl Play 02/02

NFL Super Bowl - 101 Seattle Seahawks @ 102 Denver Broncos

Play #1

***TRIPLE DIME PLAY***

My side fair line for this contest is DEN-3 so we really don’t have any significant edge in this market and I've decided to pass w/ Sides. The same thing cannot be said about the Totals because I really think we are getting some great value w/ Under.

The narrative for this Super Bowl actually it’s quite easy to understand it: DEN has the best offense in the league vs. SEA phenomenal defense (one of the best defenses in the history of the league).

The X factor for this contest in my opinion = TEMPO of the game that will favors a low scoring game!

Let me explain it…

DEN has changed their approach for this postseason…they are now a "controlling-offensive" team as their primary mindset is to keep and manage the ball possession using their awesome offensive diversity. They know they don't have the same weapons on the defensive side of the ball so they are trying to maximize the time w/ their offense.

Just check this out:

NFL Regular Season Rankings Average Time of Possession:

DEN ranked #16 w/ 30:01

However, in the 2 games of this season postseason:

35:27 vs. SD (that was #1 ranked team in this stat)

35:44 vs. NE

The perfect example was the 2 TD’s scored vs. NE in which both scoring drives lasted +7min w/ 10 and 13 plays! Having said that, it isn't going to be easy to score vs. this SEA defense that was ranking #1 BY FAR in passing defense w/ -34.3% DVOA.

On the other side, DEN defense is banged up especially w/ their secondary unit. However, SEA offense is a run-oriented unit w/ Pass/Rush ratio of 45%/55%, and I expect them to be conservative in this contest while riding their RB M. Lynch. However, DEN is actually a pretty underrated run defensive team by being ranked #9 during the regular season (#9 w/ -14.4%).

Already in the 2 playoffs games, they held SD to just 65 rushing yds for 3.6 yds/car, and in the last game vs. potent NE rushing offense that ran for 234 rushing yds vs. IND, DEN held NE to just 64 rushing yds!

I expect this contest to be played @slow tempo due to the mindset of both teams. DEN defense won’t be explored on their biggest weakness while DEN offense will keep their game plan while they are yet to face such tremendous defensive team like SEA is and therefore, I’m taking the Under in here as my Triple Dime Play!

Pick: 5 units (Triple Dime Play) on 101/102 Under 48.5 @ -110 / 1.91 on Betonline

NFL Premium Play 01/19

NFL Conference Round - 301 New England Patriots @ 302 Denver Broncos

Play #1

***TRIPLE DIME PLAY***

At first sight, in a “matchup” between Manning vs. Brady, automatically we “should” have take the Underdog, especially if there a line of +3 points involved…

However, I feel like there is a considerable gap of quality between these two teams, and for some reason the oddsmakers were forced to put this line on the market, even knowing that the public money would be all over New England. I was able to bet/make a play @ best possible timing w/ DEN-4 but I have the same confidence @DEN-6!

Looking for the matchups now…

Denver Broncos offense vs. New England defense:

After being incapable of control the flow of the game vs. SD in the regular season, DEN did make sure that they had the majority of ball possession w/ 35:27 by establishing an almost 50/50 game plan of passing the ball (36 attempts) & rushing (34 rushing plays).

It was remarkable that DEN didn’t have a single PUNT all game vs. SD! I had a play @SD+9 but I can say without any problem that DEN should crush SD given all their dominance:

Denver Drive Summaries:

Touchdown
Fumble
Touchdown
Intercepted Pass @SD4
Field Goal
Missed Field Goal
Touchdown

New England’s defense has been shorthanded all season long but especially in the last weeks and their DVOA passing defense has been notorious subpar:

+38.0% vs. HOU, +81.6% vs. CLE, +45.4% vs. MIA, -28.2% (good performance) vs. BAL & 24.7% vs. BUF – note that all these offenses are mediocre and way far from the level of DEN's offense.

The bigger problem is that NE’s rushing defense has been declining… The Patriots have allowed an 8.8% rushing DVOA since Week 9, #4 worst mark in the league ahead of only CHI, DAL and GB!

NE was able to have a good defensive performance against the Colts in the last week, but it was against a team primed for a physical letdown: IND & Andrew Luck played aggressively and w/ only one “reliable” target in T. Hilton, it was “too easy” for NE to hold IND’s offense…

I expect DEN to have a similar game plan of last’s week’s game: control the flow of the game, taking advantage of NE’s poor rush defense and make the right passing plays w/ Manning having available all his best receivers.

New England offense vs. Denver Broncos defense:

Since Gronk was lost for the season that NE is more a “run oriented” team and they showed that perfectly against IND w/ 46 rushing plays & 234 rushing yds for an impressive avg. of 5.1! The problem is that DEN rushing defense is actually a pretty good unit - DEN finished the regular season ranked #9 w/ -14.4% DVOA against the run. Then, they held the #12 rushing offense SD to a phenomenal -31.2% in the last game

Obviously, DEN pass defense is their weakest link and things get worst w/ the injury of Chris Harris in the last week. However, will NE change their entire dynamic just to punish DEN’s bad passing defense?!? If yes, we should be fine b/c Brady doesn’t have the same core of receivers that Manning has and more importantly, NE won’t be able to control the flow of the game like they would w/ a running mindset.

In both potential scenarios, I think that DEN has the edge in this department while offensively; DEN offense is just too much for the banged up Patriots.

I won’t talk much about the h2h played @reg. season b/c: 1) it was an awful day to play football w/ an incredible wind; 2) DEN’s top receiver Julius Thomas didn't play the game; 3) R. Gronkowski was a key player w/ 90 yds & 1 TD…all these big factors won’t happen in this contest.

I’m taking Denver in here as my NFL Triple Dime Play!

Pick: 5 units (Triple Dime Play) on 302 Denver Broncos (-4) @ -105 / 1.87 on Betonline

NFL Free Premium Play 01/19: San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks

San Francisco  at Seattle

NFL Conference Round - 303 San Francisco 49ers @ 304 Seattle Seahawks

Play #2

In normal conditions, I would have a lean in SEA-3.5 playing at home vs. any team in the league as I understand the “12th man advantage” for SEA, and their incredible home record in the last few season’s that includes two complete “beatings” vs. San Francisco in the last 2 h2h’s games at home.

However, this also creates an additional pressure to win for SEA, and this might turn against them especially vs. such experienced and road battled team like SF.

I really don’t trust SEA offense right now… in the last game, they could have put the Saints away already in the first half, but they settled for 3 FG’s in their 4 FH scoring drives. They were #2 in offensive penalties during the regular season – only OAK had more offensive penalties than them, and SEA’s running game isn’t that “strong” – Yes, they ran for 174 yds vs. NO last week but it was vs. the Saints rushing defense….enough said.

SF’s defense has been dramatically improving in the last weeks, especially since Aldon Smith returned to the team. Already in this postseason, SF has faced two great mobile QB’s in A. Rodgers and Cam Newton and they did a terrific job in slowing them down, and I expect them to be decent vs. R. Wilson.

The X factor IMO for this contest is related w/ matchup SF offense vs. SEA defense…

I won’t waste many words talking about SEA’s defense – they are awesome!!!
However, SF’s offense has now more weapons than SEA offense and this will make the difference especially in short/medium range plays. A. Boldin, M. Crabtree & V. Davis will dictate some extra attention from SEA defense and this will open up a bit the field for Gore’s & Kaepernick’s legs in the running game.

SEA’s thrives in creating Turnovers but they will have a hard time in doing that vs. SF that takes care of the ball – one TO in their last 5 games!

I really expect this contest to be a tight battle while the home court advantage won’t be that much a factor IMO for a SF team that already have won @GB in the cold and completely dominated CAR on the road in the last game, therefore, I’m taking SF+3.5 in here as my Single Dime Play.

NFL Wild Card - 103 New Orleans Saints @ 104 Philadelphia Eagles

Play #2

So the Saints suck on the road and they really don’t have a chance tonight against the awesome Eagles running game! This is the primary narrative for this contest all around the web, but I really expect the Saints to be extremely competitive in this contest.

NO has lost 5 games on the road during the regular season but let’s take a look of their opponent’s ranks in pass defense…

DVOA Passing Defense rankings:
@NE #14 w/ +3.9%
@NYJ #17 w/ +7.4% (at the time, they were a top10 pass defense w/ -10.3%)
@SEA #1 w/-34.3%
@STL #15 w/ +4.8%
@CAR #3 w/ -18.0%

We can say that NO have faced top15 pass defenses that gave them some fits on their offense. Well, the Eagles pass defense is ranked just #25 in the league, and they are coming from a game in which they allowed the backup Kyle Orton to complete 65% of his passes for 358 yds and 7.8avg. The Cowboys explored Patrick Chung’s awful defensive skills to torched them w/ Jason Witten (he had 12 rec. & 135 yds) and the Saints have the best TE in the NFL w/ J. Graham, so we can expect Sean Payton to explore this matchup.

I’m aware that PHI running game will have some edge vs. #20 ranked rush defense of the Saints, but note that NO rush defense has been playing better in the last weeks:

Game Logs Def. Rush DVOA:

@SEA: -31.9%
CAR: +8.8%
@STL: +0.9%
@CAR: -13.4%
TB: -6.8%

On the road, against the dynamic Panther’s #4 ranked rush offense in the league, the Saints held them to a decent 81 rushing yds & 4.5 avg.

Rob Ryan’s aggressive approach to the game could make some damage to PHI offense, while I think that the superior experience of NO’s coaching staff and especially Drew Brees vs. Nick Foles will work favorably for the Saints as well, and therefore, I’m taking the Saints tonight as my Single Dime Play.

NFL Free Premium Play: Kansas City Chiefs @ Indianapolis Colts

Kansas City  at Indianapolis

NFL Wild Card - 101 Kansas City Chiefs @ 102 Indianapolis Colts

Play #1

I expect this contest to be a low scoring game due to the nature of both team’s offensive mindsets and their improved defenses going to today’s matchup.
It’s no secret that KC will try to establish their running game w/ Jamal Charles and control the flow of the game w/ Alex Smith. Meanwhile, the Colts are also a run-heavy oriented team, although lately they are more a pass-control offensive team. Both teams simply don’t want to commit Turnovers and they were great during the regular season in this department w/ IND ranked #1 w/ 0.88 TO/game while IND was #2 w/ 1.12 TO/game.

The h2h between these two teams a couple of weeks ago was exactly decided in the TO battle, because the Colts played a free game, while KC committed a season high 4 TO’s that prevented them to control the clock (only 21:40 vs. 38:20 from IND) and naturally they lost the game.

After some bizarre and humiliating losses against inferior level teams, the Colts played better down the stretch and it was their defense the main catalyst for such improved play as they have allowed only 3, 7 and 10 pts L3 games.
KC defense had a natural letdown in the last weeks as their competition got stronger, but I it’s impossible to ignore the fact that two of their best defensive players Tamba Hali and Justin Houston got injured. The good news is that both will play today and so, we can expect a KC improved defense on the field that had basically two weeks to prepare for today’s game.

With two offenses focused in not committing TO’s and manage the game & two improved defenses, I feel that we are dealing w/ an inflated totals line and that’s why I’m taking the Under in here.

NFL Week 15 Premium Play: Baltimore Ravens @ Detroit Lions

NFL Week 15 - 333 Baltimore Ravens @ 334 Detroit Lions

Play #1

Baltimore is one of the worst teams in the league when it comes to force turnovers, so unless Detroit enters in complete kamikaze mode, the Lions won't be turning over the football tonight. However, the Ravens' defense has been quite decent with a -11.1% DVOA defense. With Reggie Bush still banged up, I believe Detroit's offense won't have a field day against a Baltimore defense that might not be an elite unit anymore, but it is still a decent unit.

On the other hand, Baltimore's offense has been poor lately with a negative offense DVOA in all their last six games: -15.3%, -42.5%, -25.9%, -20.7%, -20.4% and -24.3%! Their running game has been so poor this season that the banged up Detroit's secondary won't need to give a lot of attention to Baltimore's rushing game, especially because Detroit's DL is excellent when it comes to run blocking. Therefore, I don't see this game being a very high scoring one and so, I'll be taking the Under in here.
