MLB - 911 San Diego Padres @ 912 Atlanta Braves
(Starting Pitchers: E. Volquez vs P. Maholm)
***DOUBLE DIME PLAY***
The Padres were completely yesterday dominated by the Braves and looking at the last outings of tonight's SP Volquez, I expect them to have a tough night once again today. Volquez's command has been all over the place on his last three starts (12.70, 6.70 and 8.10 FIP L3). He has allowed 15 runs and 15 hits with 11 walks on his past 10 innings. In fact, his overall numbers aren't that bad because he plays most of his games on the pitcher-friendly Petco Park (3.24 ERA + 3.29 FIP) because when he plays on the road, it's clear that his problems get very quickly exposed (5.04 ERA + 5.50 FIP). Looking at the fact that Atlanta is #2 on the league in BB% with 9.1%, I believe Volquez will have loads of problems with his command once again tonight.
On the other side, Atlanta will start Maholm, who will make his second start since joining Atlanta. On his first start, he looked very impressive and needed just 95 pitches to finish off the Mets (1.98 FIP). Maholm was already in good form in Chicago (his last start with the Cubs saw him having a great outing at St. Louis where he allowed just 1 ER) and therefore, I expect him to continue his good form tonight against the Padres.
Not only Atlanta has a better offense than San Diego, as they have a clear SP edge on this contest, with Maholm being in a great moment, while Volquez's command is all over the place right now. Therefore, I expect a very easy win for the Braves tonight and so, I'll take them in here. Double Dime Play!
Pick: 4 units (Double Dime Play) on 912 Atlanta Braves RL -1 (w/ P. Maholm) @ -135 / 1.74 on Pinnacle
