MLB - 971 Boston Red Sox @ 972 New York Yankees (Starting Pitchers: J. Lester vs D. Phelps) Boston is starting Lester, who is having a tough season, however he is coming from a great outing in Cleveland, where in 6IP he allowed just 1 earned run and three hits, while having a 12/2 K/BB ratio. The truth is that even though it might seem at first time that he has been terrible, the truth is that he has also been super unlucky, as he has a 5.20 ERA, but just a 3.91 FIP, besides the fact that he has been superb on his last three outings with 0.10, 2.80 and 1.35 FIP! He allowed just four earned run in each of the two starts he has already had against the Yankees this season, so I expect him to do a good job today. On the other hand, the Yankees will start Phelps, who is replacing the injured CC Sabathia in the rotation. He had some decent performances lately, but on his last start against the Rangers, he had a 3.60 ERa and 5.70 FIP, so he was a bit lucky throughout his outing. He isn't a good pitcher against LH batters (5.03 FIP and 4.41 xFIP) and on his first start against the rivals Red Sox, I expect him to be nervous and struggle, especially when in 19 AB's against the Red Sox, he has allowed a .368 BA and a .979 OPS! With Lester surely being more impressive than Phelps lately and with Boston also being a good offensive team to counter the Yankees' great offensive power, I believe Lester and the Red Sox have a great shot of pulling the upset today and so, I'll be taking Boston today.
