MLB - 915 Arizona Diamondbacks @ 916 St Louis Cardinals
(Starting Pitchers: J. Saunders vs A. Wainwright)
Arizona will start Saunders tonight, who is coming from a game against Pittsburgh where he had a struggling second inning, where he allowed three runs, but then bounced back to limit the Pirates to just three hits in the following five innings. His last three matchups were relatively easy for him, as the Mets struggle against LHP and same goes for Philadelphia. Still, on his last five outings, he posted a FIP of 2.24, 5.15, 3.38, 4.67 and 5.10 and while he posts a 1.60 FIP against LH hitters, he struggles much more against RH hitters with 4.71 FIP! But the most alarming thing is that the current Cardinals' roster is hitting .333 BA and 1.190 OPS against him in 45 AB! So, not only Saunders hasn't been very tested lately, as he will be facing a very good offensive team who has shown in the past that they know how to hurt Saunders and really badly.
On the other hand, St Louis will start Wainwright, who is a RHP and therefore not a good matchup for the Dbacks offense who are #2 in the league vs LHP, but just #20 against RHP. He had 5 days rest prior to this contest and looking at his recent FIP numbers (2.38, 1.54, 1.93, 2.01 and 0.95 L5), it's clear that he is back at an excellent level and therefore, he should have little problems in taking out the Dbacks' offense, who isn't very effective against right handed pitchers (current Dbacks lineup is just hitting .222 BA against him by the way).
I believe there is a very clear SP edge in favor of St. Louis on this contest and with the Cardinals offense being surely able to go toe-to-toe with the Dbacks offense who isn't that good vs RH pitchers, I expect another easy win for St. Louis tonight like it happened last night. Therefore, I'll be taking St Louis in here.
Pick: 3 units (Single Dime Play) on 916 St Louis Cardinals RL -1 (w/ A. Wainwright) @ -130 / 1.77 on Pinnacle
