(Starting Pitchers: A. Sanchez vs S. Deduno)
***DOUBLE DIME PLAY***
Detroit is in the middle of the playoff race and they are coming from two very tough series against Texas and the Yankees. They'll use Sanchez as their SP for tonight and he has been quite unlucky luck, as even though he has a season 4.37 ERA (7.80 ERA since he came to Detroit plus a 10:7 K:BB ratio), his FIP is just 3.83, so he has been a bit unlucky on his starts. On his three starts already on Detroit, Sanchez had a great start and two weak ones, but they were against the Yankees and the Blue Jays, two teams that hit .333 and .294 BA respectively against him. Now against Minnesota, I expect Sanchez to have a good outing against the Twins tonight as he has never faced this team and the batters don't know him, as the current roster of the Twins only had a combined of 12 AB's and 0 hits against him. Therefore, I expect Sanchez to surprise them and show that he is a better SP than his stats are currently showing.
On the other hand, Minnesota will have Deduno as their SP and he is exactly in the opposite position of Sanchez. He has a 3.27 ERA on his 6 starts, however his pheripals are horrible with 5.70 FIP and just .247 BABIP! If we look at his gamelogs and we compare the ERA with the FIP, Deduno "should" have had a worse ERA than he had in every game and sooner or later he will get exposed and that started to happen on his last start against Cleveland where in just 4IP, he allowed 5 hits and 4 runs, with a terrible 3/5 K/BB ratio. Please also note that Cleveland was in a major slump at the time having suffered 10 consecutive losses, but that didn't prevent them to punish Deduno. With Detroit's offense being red hot right now (.346 BA vs RHP L10 games), they will also expose Deduno's problems and get a good win combined with a solid performance by Sanchez. Therefore, I'll take the Tigers to win tonight. Double Dime Play!
