MLB Premium Play 08/13: Philadelphia Phillies @ Miami Marlins

MLB - 905 Philadelphia Phillies @ 906 Miami Marlins

(Starting Pitchers: C. Hamels vs N. Eovaldi)

After a tumultuous month of July with a lot of trade rumors involving him, the truth is that after renewing his contract with Philadelphia, Hamels has been impressive on his last two starts with 2.81 and 1.76 FIP. Considering those starts were against Washington and Atlanta, Hamels' performances only really get even more impressive. For today, with five days of rest and with Hamels coming from a 111 pitches last game, he is on a good spot to face the Marlins. Hamels has struggled in the past against Florida/Miami and he has faced them three times this season, in outings where he allowed 3, 5 and 3 ER, with the current roster of Miami averaging .291 BA against him, however three of the batters who have been making Hamels struggle the most (Bonifacio .308 BA, Coghlan .333 BA and Morrison .316 BA) will be out of tonight's contest. Therefore, I believe in another good outing for Hamels today.

On the other hand, Miami will use Eovaldi as their SP for tonight and in their first three games for the Marlins, he started well against San Diego with 1.69 ERA and 2.91 FIP, but this doesn't mean a lot as the Padres offense is weak. Especially when on his outing at Atlanta he was punished with 6 ER in just 2 IP and with just 1 K! On his last start at NY against the Mets, he was tremendously lucky by posting a 0.00 ERA but with a 5.89 FIP, as he walked 6 batters and allowed 4 hits, without allowing a single run, something extremely lucky. But this means that he has now had two outings in a row with a FIP over 5 and even though Philadelphia hasn't been impressive on offense, their top batters are LH (Utley, Howard, Pierre, Brown) and so, the Phillies have a good shot of taking advantage of Eovaldi's struggles against LH batters (.337 and .506 SLG).

With Hamels ready for another good outing and with Eovaldi currently struggling, I believe Philadelphia should be able to have a comfortable win today and so, I'll take the Phillies to win today.

Pick: 3 units (Single Dime Play) on 905 Philadelphia Phillies RL-1 (w/ C. Hamels) @  -132 / 1.76 on 5 Dimes
