Projected Line: NY Knicks by 10 points
The Knicks have lost their last three games, however we have to take in account the three opponents that they've faced: Boston, Indiana and Chicago, three teams that are respectively #6, #1 and #2 on spot up defense, therefore three terrible matchups for the Knicks. These three teams are able to make excellent close outs to the perimeter, something that really makes the jump shooting team of the Knicks struggle heavily. The NY team will now face New Orleans, a team that is the complete opposite. We are talking about a team that has a defensive positioning directed to protect the paint, while giving more space on the outside. That's why New Orleans is only ranked #27 on spot up defense while allowing 1.04 PPP. At the same time, New Orleans is #20 on defending pick and roll ball handler plays, so the Hornets are indeed a great matchup for the Knicks's offense. They will be fired up for today after losing three games in a row, so I expect the Knicks to have a big offensive game today.
On the other hand, the Hornets's offense depends a lot from their PG Greivis Vasquez. He tends to commit errors when he is pressured and the Knicks are a good team in creating turnovers. Tyson Chandler will defend Robin Lopez, so New Orleans's post up game will have limited efficiency today. New Orleans has been better on offense lately with Eric Gordon back and Austin Rivers on the bench, however they aren't a team to go head to head with the Knicks on this very favorable matchup for the NY team. New Orleans is 4-0 on their last four games, but these games were always on good spots and playing at their home. Now on the road against a fired up Knicks team, they will be crushed today. Take the Knicks in here.
