I really like the Celtics for tonight for a statement win against the Rockets.

I’m aware that the Celtics will struggle a bit to defend the Rockets’ lethal transitions plays but in everything else, the Celtics have a substantial edge against the Rockets offense:

1) Oddly, the Rockets are not a good offensive team! They are ranked #21 w/24.6% off. Reb/rate% but L10 games their numbers are worst w/ 22.3%. Certainly that will help the Celtics who although they are ranked #13 best defensive reb team, they tend to struggle against powerful rebounding teams.

2) Turnovers! The Rockets play fast and they commit Turnovers -> #1 and #30 in the league respectively but lately their turnovers numbers have been insane. L4 games:

17.55% TO/rate% on those 4 games! With Bradley back in the league, the Celtics pressure defense is back and “suddenly” they are creating turnovers in a high rate, since Bradley returned, here is BOS opp. TO numbers:

3) Pick and Rolls! Houston is one of the best teams in the league in P&R’s BH -> Harden has been great but the Celtics are ranked #2 right now allowing 0.68 PPP (the numbers with Bradley have been insanely good but obviously we are dealing with a small sample) so the Celtics will be able to slow down the biggest strength of the Rockets offense. I expect Bradley lock down on Harden while the rest of the Boston crew will help him.

The Rockets won the first h2h back in Houston but note that the Celtics didn’t have Bradley. Hell, they were coming from a double OT game against the Mavericks with just one day off to rest. They hang around @ HT winning 45-43 but with tired legs they couldn’t play in the second half (HOU outscored them 58-44).

I expect a complete game from Boston tonight for an easy win.

NBA - 817 Cleveland Cavaliers @ 818 Denver Nuggets

This is a tough matchup for the Cavaliers and I don’t expect them to perform well tonight. The Cavs have been really shorthanded on the frontcourt especially with Anderson Varejao being out as basically they have only in Tristan Thompson and Zeller their legit bigs. Already in this week, they were simply pounded down low by the Bulls: 54 points in the paint & 27-43 FG at the rim and I expect a similar scenario tonight.

Well, the Nuggets are ranked #1 in the league in vol% shots at the rim and they are coming from a game in which they scored 68 points in the paint & 33-56 FG at the rim against Orlando! If we add the fact that Cleveland is a poor transition defensive team (#22 fast break points allowed w/ 14.1 ppg + #24 transition defense) then we have a powerful combination that will help the Nuggets offense.

Kyrie Irving is questionable for tonight. If he ends up playing, the Nuggets are a pretty good defensive team in stopping dribble penetration from the opposing guards (they are ranked #2 defending P&R BH plays) and this hurts the way the Cavs play on the offensive end.

With edges in both ends of the floor and playing at home = Blowout win for Denver!
