MLB - 967 Seattle Mariners @ 968 Texas Rangers
(Starting Pitchers: F. Hernandez vs D. Holland)
Seattle absolutely crushed Justin Grimm yesterday, while Texas's struggling offense couldn't do anything special against Joe Saunders even though the Rangers had great AB's numbers against him prior to yesterday's game. Tonight the Mariners are starting Felix Hernandez, who is coming from a subpar outing against Pittsburgh at home, where he had a 11/2 K/BB ratio, but where he couldn't win the decision. Felix's last three games were against red hot offenses: Pittsburgh (#11 on wRC+ L30 days), LA Angels (#2) and Oakland (#9). Felix only struggled against the Angels, but I would say that he is currently playing at his natural great level. He had two starts against Texas earlier on the season and he lost both games, who were played in Seattle! The difference is that Texas' offense had a plus value offense at the time, with their wRC+ being above the league's average, while things are different this time with Texas being #27 in the league on wRC+ over the last 30 and 14 days! Therefore, I expect Hernandez to dominate tonight.
Texas will start Derek Holland, who is coming from a huge game against the Yankees in NY, where he played a complete game. But the key in that game was the Yankees' offense, who was slumping at the time and so, Holland had a very favorable matchup. He has been pitching well, but Seattle's offense is currently on a 4-games run where they are showing good offense and so, I don't expect the gap between offenses tonight to be considerable. As Felix will give the Mariners some SP edge in here tonight, I believe Seattle has excellent value as underdogs tonight.
