MLB World Series - Series Play: Texas Rangers vs St. Louis Cardinals

MLB WORLD SERIES - Best of Seven: Texas Rangers vs St. Louis Cardinals

***SINGLE DIME PLAY***

I had the Rangers to win the World Series before the start of the series but couldn't make a bet or play on them because the price was damn right! After watching game 1, my thoughts remains the same despite the loss of the Rangers, however we have now an adjusted series price that offers way more value to back the Rangers and I’m taking them at this price.

Despite all the struggles during the postseason and some flaws in game 1, CJ Wilson made a nice job last night while giving the Rangers a fair chance to win the ballgame. I was expecting that because I had the Under 7.5 as my Single Dime Play and now I’m pretty sure that Wilson will offer the same thing in his next matchup against Carpenter later on the series.

The main reason for his partial success is the same reason why the Rangers will win the World Series: The Rangers starting pitching crew is a bad matchup for the Cardinals hitters!

Here’s some statistic information (regular season numbers):

GB/FB rate:

Cardinals ranked #1  1.45

GB%:

Cardinals ranked #2 47.2%

FB%:

Cardinals ranked #30 32.5%

The Cardinals as a team are a typical ground ball machine and it should be no surprise this:

Grounded Double Plays:

Cardinals ranked #1 169 (2nd best team had 154 GDP’s!)

Even in this postseason:

Cardinals ranked #2 10 (#1 was/is Detroit with 13 DP’s – 8 of them were against the Rangers)

Because they pitch for the Texas Rangers and they have to pitch in the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington half of their games, the Rangers starting pitching rotation are mainly a GB pitching crew – it makes sense after all! Here’s some statistic information (regular season numbers):

GB%/FB%

CJ Wilson: 49.3% / 31.9%
C. Lewis: 34.1% / 49%
M. Harrison: 47.5% / 32.2%
D. Holland: 46.4% / 33.6%

GDP’s during regular season:

CJ Wilson: 31 (ranked #1)
C. Lewis: 10 (ranked #116)
M. Harrison: 30 (ranked #2)
D. Holland: 20 (ranked #24)

Note that only Colby Lewis isn’t a “GB pitcher”! For some reason Lewis only pitches on the road in the postseason as 22 of his 35 Home Runs allowed were in the Rangers Ballpark.

The Rangers pitching has the potential to be a tough matchup for the Cardinals while besides Carpenter, I don’t think that Texas will have many problems to reach Garcia, Lohse and/or Jackson.

I think that we have some value with the Rangers to win the World Series at this very moment and I’m taking them as my Single Dime Play.
