Game Recap 03/04: Charlotte Bobcats @ Portland Trailblazers
No comments about the Bobcats's defense. They couldn't keep their guards out of the paint, they couldn't stop the free ball movement, they couldn't protect the rim, they couldn't keep Portland off the glass early. Portland moved the ball like they wanted, while shooting 60% FG and 50% 3pts! They had seven players in double figures, they scored 50 points in the paint, they shot 22-30 FG at the rim, 11-15 FG from 16-23 feet and 12-24 treys! The Blazers's offense really did whatever they wanted to do with the Bobcats.
The "good" news for Charlotte was that they were able to score as well. They dominated the boards, kinda surprisingly considering they had grabbed just 30% and 34% of the rebounds on their two previous games. However, Charlotte's perimeter shooting keeps being terrible with 1-10 FG, but they were able to do some damage on pick and roll ball handler plays with 8-18 FG 0.95 PPP and on transitions with 8-15 FG! Portland's poor interior defense was exposed once again, with the Bobcats scoring 60 points at the paint and 30-45 (66.7%) FG at the rim! Still, I believe this was also caused due to Portland's defense being relaxed, as they could do whatever they wanted to Charlotte on the other side of the floor.
Game Recap 03/04: Toronto Raptors @ Golden State Warriors
Toronto showed on this game all their problems that they've been having during this new Rudy Gay Era. Andrea Bargnani had his best game of the season with 8-18 FG and 5-7 3pts, but note that he shot just once at the rim! Toronto crushed Golden State on the boards by grabbing 60% of the rebounds, with Amir Johnson grabbing 12 offensive rebounds and shooting 10-10 FG! Rugy Day was minimally effective with 10-22 FG and Kyle Lowry was one assist away from a triple double! However, they still lost the game by 7 points!
The Raptors continue showing no flow on their offense. From their 41 FG made, only 16 of them were assisted. This is a ridiculously low number on a run and gun game! Golden State had 33 assists for example! While the Raptors were able of making their shots, everything was fine for then, but as soon as Golden State showed some effort on defense down the stretch, the Raptors's lack of ball movement was exposed and they couldn't make their shots anymore. Toronto had just 1 assist during the entire fourth quarter!
Toronto shot 8-29 FG on the fourth quarter and this isn't enough for a team that has a poor defense. The Warriors got easy baskets at the rim over and over with Andrea Bargnani and Jonas Valanciunas being unable to defend at all. The Warriors's offense did whatever they wanted to do during the whole game. First of all, their perimeter shooting was onfire, then they also scored a lot of points down low with David Lee and Carl Landry helping the team shooting 20-29 (69%) FG at the rim! However, Golden State keeps showing a lot of problems on their two weakest areas: defense and rebounding!
Game Recap 03/04: Utah Jazz @ Milwaukee Bucks
Milwaukee showed some great offensive dynamic on the backcourt. It was the second game in a row where Brandon Jennings had a great assists number, while Monta Ellis has improved his shot location selection and he is now attacking the rim more: 9-10 FG at the rim! If we add J.J. Redick shooting 7-14 FG, the Bucks were excellent with 29 assists and 10-24 3pts! While the Jazz's starters were on the court, Milwaukee did whatever they wanted on offense, as Randy Foye simply couldn't defend Monta Ellis. To make things worse for Utah, their starting backcourt was simply horrible! Earl Watson, Randy Foye and Marvin Williams combined to score zero points on 0-15 FG!
Utah stayed in the game due to a huge rebounding edge by grabbing almost 60% of the rebounds. Ersan Ilyasova was completely dominated in both ends of the floor, as not only he shot 3-13 FG, as he was crushed on defense by Utah's frontcourt. Both Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter played well and Utah's main problem was simply their 21 turnovers committed! After the same, Coach Corbin said that he would consider making changes to the starting lineup:
"We've got to evaluate it and see. I'm concerned with our energy," Corbin said. "I'm concerned with the energy to begin the ballgame, and not be able to get ourselves going before. … Nobody's making shots there, so we've got to be able to get something going earlier in ballgames, especially with Al being out."
