The Lakers are right now in their best moment of the season by coming from a nice win at home against Miami, where they explored very well their size edge and were able to crush the inside game of the Heat. They will now play in Detroit, where Monroe is the key for the Pistons and with him having a bad matchup tonight, Detroit has immediately a big problem for this contest. Detroit has just shot 50% FG at the rim in their last 5 games and even though the Lakers aren't a top defense at the rim, they have enough quality to stop the interior game of the Pistons tonight. In terms of their perimeter game, they will start with Stuckey and Knight in the backcourt, so they will have an immediate defensive problem to stop Kobe. Potentially Prince will try to guard Kobe as well, but Prince is past his prime and he won't be able to handle Kobe for a full game.
One of the Lakers assistants coached Detroit for the last two season, so the Lakers have some inside information for this matchup. The Lakers will have a clear edge with Pau against Maxiell, with an evident edge in terms of post up plays. Detroit's offense is efficient in getting offensive boards, but against a top rebounding team like the Lakers, they won't be as lucky as usual in this area. With a 6-12 road record, the Lakers have some sense of urgency in starting to win on the road and with this favorable spot and matchup, I expect them to have a very comfortable win today.
