The White Sox have been playing well and they won series at Minnesota, at Kansas City and this weekend they defeated Texas on a big series. Now against the lowly Astros, I expect an emotional letdown. On the other side, Houston almost swept Toronto at home if it wasn't for a blown save. The Astros will start Brett Oberholtzer tonight and he is coming from four good outings, with 3, 2, 0 and 0 earned runs allowed. The most impressive fact is that he faced Baltimore, Boston, Texas and the LA Angels in those outings! The White Sox are red hot on offense right now, but it's not because of a great offense, as the good pitching is the main reason why they've been winning so much lately.

Andre Rienzo will start for the White Sox tonight and he has been decent, even though he has a 10.7% BB%, something that is preventing him from going deep on his outings. Houston is hitting .291 BA against RH pitchers over their last 10 games, they are confident right now and I believe they should be able to make this game competitive against the White Sox that will be on a clear letdown spot tonight. Therefore, I'll be taking Houston in here.

Detroit have lost their last three games and yesterday they made some poor mistakes, as only two of the four runs that the White Sox scored were earned. Rick Porcello will start for the Tigers tonight and he has been very solid lately. However, he struggled a bit on his last outing at NY against the Yankees, with three earned runs in five innings. He faced the White Sox twice recently and he looked good in both games. He has been solid lately, so I expect him to have another decent outing tonight.

On the other side, John Danks will start for the White Sox and he is coming from allowing three runs in six innings against Minnesota last Friday. He had a season high five walks in that outing and he has been heavily prone to allowing home runs with 21 allowed in 95.2 innings! Danks allowed three home runs on each of his last two games against Detroit. This combination of poor control and HR prone issues will make him get pounded against a fired up Tigers lineup. Detroit will try to avoid a sweep today and I expect them to achieve that with an easy win in here. I'm taking the Tigers today on a Double Dime Play!

This is a good bounce back spot for Detroit tonight, after losing the first game of the series last night. The Tigers will face Hector Santiago tonight, who is coming from a start where he was terrible against the Yankees, with 6.35 ERA, 6.93 FIP and 4.77 xFIP! This was strange, as he was coming from a nice start at Detroit! This will be the third time in three weeks that Santiago will face the Tigers and with no surprise factor whatsoever, the elite offense of the Tigers will crush Santiago tonight.

On the other hand, Max Scherzer will try to get another win tonight. He has been easily winning his outings with the help of great run support, so his maximum number of pitches on his last four outings was 107 pitches! He allowed just 0 and 2 earned runs on his first two games of the series against the White Sox this season and I don't expect things to be any different tonight. I believe Detroit will pick up an easy win tonight and so, I'll be taking them on the runline in here.

Hector Santiago will start for the White Sox tonight and he has been great lately by allowing three or less runs on his last six starts! He faced Detroit in two of his last three outings and he was excellent in both games with two and three earned runs allowed! The Yankees are just #27 on hitting against LH pitchers this season, so Santiago has a great matchup to keep his nice run of consecutive good outings tonight

The Yankees will start C.C. Sabathia tonight, who has been horrible lately. He is coming from from five runs allowed in 5.2 innings against San Diego last Friday, for his 10th loss of the season! Even on a pitcher-friendly park, Sabathia struggled, allowing one more home run. Sabathia has now allowed 5, 7 and 7 earned runs on his last three outings and even though the White Sox aren't being a great team versus LH pitchers this season, the truth is that they are hitting .333 BA against LH pitchers on their last 10 games! I believe the White Sox have a clear SP edge for tonight's game and so, I'll be taking them in here for a comfortable win.

Detroit will start Max Scherzer tonight, who threw six scoreless innings against Philadelphia last Saturday. He is super fresh for tonight, as he had six days of rest and he threw just 75 pitches on his last game! Therefore, I expect him to continue his dominant season tonight with another quality outing against the lowly White Sox.

On the other side, John Danks will start for the White Sox and he is coming from two runs (one earned) allowed against Cleveland last Monday. This isn't being a good season for Danks, who has a lot of red flags around him: .269 BA, 18.1 HR/FB% and a 5.04 FIP. Even with Miguel Cabrera out of Detroit's lineup tonight, I still expect Detroit to pound Danks tonight, just like they did it a bit more than a week ago, when Danks allowed six earned runs in seven innings against them. I believe Scherzer will dominate tonight, while Danks will struggle a lot, therefore I expect an easy win for Detroit in here and so, I'll be taking them on the runline.

Hector Santiago will start for the White Sox tonight and he is coming from two runs allowed in 6.2 innings against Kansas City last Sunday. He has been solid lately, but he had four favorable opponents on his last six games. So, only two of those six starts were against tough opponents (Detroit and Cleveland) and he got pounded in both these games! He allowed five earned runs in 2.1 innings against the Indians, while against the Tigers, Santiago allowed three earned runs, while having a terrible 6/5 K/BB ratio! Detroit had an off day to rest yesterday, so they will be rested to pound Santiago tonight.

Detroit will start Doug Fister, who is coming from allowing one unearned run against Philadelphia last Friday. He made some minor mechanical adjustments during the All Star break and these changes are working very well for now, as he had three solid starts on his first three games of the second half of the season! He allowed just 0, 1 and 2 earned runs on these outings, while having a good 16/4 K/BB ratio and tonight while the struggling White Sox offense (#29 L7 days & #27 L14 days), I believe Fister will dominate once again tonight. Therefore, I expect an easy win for Detroit in here and so, I'll be taking them on the runline.

Atlanta is still banged up and they won't have both Upton brothers, Heyward and Freeman for tonight's game. They will face John Danks, who had some inconsistent starts after coming the DL, something normal, but he is now in cruise control once again. All his four starts were quality ones, according to my numbers. In fact, he faced the #1 team on hitting versus LH pitchers in Tampa Bay and Danks was able to have a decent outing with 3.86 ERA, 2.49 FIP and 3.89 xFIP. Therefore, I believe Danks will have another good outing tonight against the shorthanded Braves.

On the other side, Tim Hudson has been very inconsistent lately by alternating good starts with terrible ones. The only consistent trend is that he has been great at home with 2.83 ERA and .252 wOBA, but terrible on the road with 5.19 ERA and .333 wOBA! The White Sox's offense showed some signs of life right before the All Star break by winning two of the three games played at Detroit, while scoring 11, 5 and 6 runs. Even though they lost their last series before the break by 1-2, both losses happened in extra innings. I believe the White Sox have a lot of value as home underdogs tonight due to an edge on pitching and offense, so I'll be taking the White Sox in here.

The White Sox are coming to today's game with some momentum after a big series win at Detroit. They will start John Danks today, who is coming from three awesome starts where he had 54, 94 and 39 FIP- in those games. When you see a LH pitcher having a 2.50 FIP on an outing where he faces the #1 ranked offense versus LH pitchers, I guess this shows how impressive Danks has been lately. Philadelphia has been hitting a bit better lately, but I expect the in-form Danks to have another good outing today. 

On the other hand, Jonathan Pettibone will start for the Phillies and he is coming from three decent outings against Atlanta, Pittsburgh and the LA Dodgers. However, I have to note that his P/IP rate continues being quite high with 18.0, 18.0 and 16.0 on his last three games. Thanks to that, he couldn't get past the sixth inning in any of his last nine starts. This forces Philadelphia's bullpen to be in action early and they aren't good at all, so this is a clear problem for the Phillies. Therefore, I believe the White Sox have a great opportunity to carry their momentum even further today and so, I'll be taking them in here.

This is a good bounce back spot for Detroit, after getting humiliated last night. The White Sox will start Dylan Axelrod tonight, who allowed five earned runs (two home runs) in 1.2 innings at Tampa Bay on his last outing. This bad start is just the culmination of his terrible moment. He has struggled in five of his last six starts, while ending June with a 7.53 FIP and 5.59 xFIP. Now against the great Tigers' offense, he is going to get crushed.

On the other hand, Rick Porcello will start for Detroit tonight and he is one of the most underrated pitchers in the league. He may have a 4.93 ERA, but his 3.56 FIP and 3.13 xFIP show that he has been quite unlucky this season. He had back to back poor outings against Baltimore and the LA Angels, but these two teams are ranked #5 and #4 respectively on hitting versus RH pitchers this season, while the White Sox are #28. Therefore, I expect Porcello to pitch well tonight, allowing the Tigers to have an easy win in here. I'm taking Detroit on the runline tonight on a Double Dime Play!

The White Sox had a nice game yesterday and they gave sequence to the nice offensive series that they had against Cleveland, even though they got swept against the Indians. Baltimore will start Scott Feldman tonight on his debut for the Orioles, as he got traded yesterday. He was at Oakland yesterday and he had to take an overnight flight to Chicago to play tonight. So, of course this isn't a good spot for him tonight. According to my ranking, he only had a true quality start on his last four games and that happened at NY against the Mets against a subpar offense and on a pitcher-friendly park. His last two starts weren't good at all and so, I believe Feldman is overrated against an underrated White Sox's offense that has been hitting well lately and who should put Feldman in trouble in here.

On the other side, Baltimore struggled once again against a LH pitcher yesterday: .235 BA and 2 runs vs John Danks; .235 BA vs C.C. Sabathia; .129 BA vs Scott Kazmir. Tonight, the Orioles will face another LH pitcher in Hector Santiago, who had been pitching decently until he had to face the Indians, a team that is #3 in the league in hitting against LH pitchers this season. On the other hand, Baltimore is just #21 on this stat, so I expect Santiago to bounce back tonight. I believe the White Sox are being quite underrated on this matchup and therefore, I will be taking them in here.

Houston will be looking for a 4-games series sweep against the White Sox tonight and the truth is that they have just two losses against them this season! This will be the fourth straight game where the White Sox will send a LH pitcher to the mount to face Houston and the Astros are #10 in the league on hitting against LH pitchers. Jose Quintana will start for Chicago tonight and even though he has been decent lately and had a tough schedule, he has a 5.23 FIP with .284 BA allowed in June with three starts. Therefore, I believe the Astros will have some production on offense tonight against him.

The Astros will start Bud Norris in the mount and since he got crushed by the Tigers, he had five straight quality outings, with 6, 7 and 6 strikeouts on his last three games. It's also important to note that he faced Baltimore and LA Angels in two of these three outings, two red hot offenses right now. Norris's best pitch is the slider and the White Sox are the worst team in the league in hitting against this kind of pitch. So, if the White Sox's offense is being poor on this series, it won't get any better against Norris tonight.

Houston has the momentum of the series on their side, they are playing with confidence and with a SP edge tonight, I see the Astros picking up another win over the White Sox in here.

Houston will start Dallas Keuchel today, who has been great as of late, with his last two outings being against the top offenses of Oakland and Boston, with him striking out six and nine batters! Look at his evolution this season FIP wise:

March/April: 5.78 FIP

May: 4.58 FIP

June: 3.39 FIP

Keuchel has the best groundball ratio of the league and he will have a very favorable matchup for him, as the White Sox are an awful offense against LH pitchers (#25), as they are also a team whose offense is more comfortable in hitting flyballs. Their GB% rate is 40.6%, the second worst in the league! So, this is a great spot for Keuchel to keep dominating.

On the other side, the White Sox will start Hector Santiago, who is coming from a start against Oakland, where the advanced numbers (4.64 FIP; 4.14 xFIP) were much worse than his 1.42 ERA! Houston's offense is currently very confident with 2-0 on this series and they are a great hitting team versus LH pitchers by being #6 in the league! The White Sox has exclusively sent LH pitchers to the mount on this series, so the Astros will be more than ready to pound Santiago, picking up another win today, also with the help of the in-form Keuchel.

We have in here a good spot for Oakland, not just physically and mentally, but also on outright offense and pitching as well. The White Sox are coming from a marathon game at Seattle yesterday that only ended on the 16th inning. Of course the White Sox needed to use their bullpen a lot, besides the fact that the trip from Seattle to Chicago is a quite long one. On the other hand, Oakland had a comfortable win at Milwaukee yesterday and so, they only had to make a small trip for today's game.

Matchup wise, Oakland is #3 on the league on hitting against LH pitchers with .784 OPS and they will have a good matchup against the lefty Quintana tonight, while the White Sox are just #28 versus RH pitchers, something that will benefit Straily tonight. These two teams and these pitchers faced each other last week and Straily easily got the upperhand on that outing, with just one run and six hits allowed on six innings, while having a 8/0 K/BB ratio, 0.40 FIP and 2.31 xFIP! On the other hand, Quintana struggled much more with ten hits allowed and a pedestrian 4/3 K/BB ratio, even though he limited the damage with just three runs allowed. With Oakland having a SP edge tonight, an edge on offense and a better spot, I can only expect the Athletics to pick up a comfortable win tonight.

The Rays had a big offensive game yesterday, so I expect them to be confident for today, while the White Sox's bullpen is tired after a big workload last night. David Price had a terrible first outing of the season, but then he was much better on the following three starts against good competition like Boston, Baltimore and the NY Yankees, even though he is yet to win a decision this season, with 3.50, 3.16 and 1.75 FIP! His BABIP numbers are insanely high and this is why he has allowed so many runs on this early season. 

On the other hand, even though Dylan Axelrod has been at an acceptable level, he has been having a really low BABIP with .273! His pitch count are generally high due to his inability to strikeout batters and he is yet to pass the 6th inning this season, something that will force his team's tired bullpen to get into action early. With the Rays having a SP edge in here and with Tampa Bay also coming from a much needed breakout game yesterday, I expect them to pick up a good win today.

Axelrod) This is a favorable matchup for Cleveland's offense, who has scored a total of 24 runs on their last two games, while having a +1.000 OPS! Daryl Axelrod has been struggling on this early season due to his lack strikeout stuff, with an unimpressive 9/7 K/BB ratio. This will be a tough outing for him, as he struggles against LH hitters with a career 5.32 FIP and 4.98 xFIP against LH batters! This is a problem for him tonight, as Cleveland is full of LH batters on their lineup as usual: 1. Michael Brantley (L) LF 2. Jason Kipnis (L) 2B 3. Asdrubal Cabrera (S) SS 4. Nick Swisher (S) RF 5. Jason Giambi (L) DH 6. Carlos Santana (S) C 7. Mark Reynolds (R) 1B 8. Lonnie Chisenhall (L) 3B 9. Drew Stubbs (R) CF On the other hand, Justin Masterson has been one of the best SP's in the league on this early season, with impeccable command and this will be a problem for the impatient White Sox's offense. Masterson is a GB pitcher and this is also a matchup for the White Sox, who rely on the long bombs on their offense. MLB - 963 Chicago White Sox @ 964 Toronto Blue Jays (Starting Pitchers: D. Axelrod vs J. Johnson) Josh Johnson is coming from a terrible outing at Detroit, where it seems that he froze with the cold weather. His fastball had no energy, as his fastball speed was about 3kph slower than it was on his first outing of the season against the Red Sox. Now on a much better spot, I expect him to bounce back tonight. Mark Buehrle also struggled on his first two outings of the season and he dominated yesterday. I expect the same to happen with Johnson tonight, as the White Sox's lineup gambles too much and so, their batters are unlikely to be walked often. The White Sox's batters are just hitting .200 BA and .658 OPS against him in 45 AB's, so I believe Johnson will indeed bounce back tonight. On the other side, Dylan Axelrod didn't impress me one bit on his first two starts of the season. His command was quite poor (2/3 and 2/4 K/BB), as shown by the 41 balls and 56 strikes he had against Seattle plus the 44 balls and 59 strikes against Washington. This is why he threw almost 100 pitches on his first two starts, but he couldn't even reach the 6th inning of those games. I expect Toronto's lineup to pound him today, while Johnson bounces back, therefore I expect the Blue Jays to pick an easy win tonight. MLB - 915 Kansas City Royals @ 916 Chicago White Sox (Starting Pitchers: E. Santana vs J. Peavy) Erwin Santana had an weird but interesting Spring Training with a 21/4 K/BB ratio over 23 innings. He was quite hittable on the preseason (30 hits allowed), however he played really well against the White Sox last season with a 2.08 ERA in two starts, while showing a great command with a 14/2 K/BB ratio. Santana is allowing just .239 BA and .664 OPS to the current White Sox's roster, so I believe he will have a good outing today. Santana's best pitch is his slider by far, a kind of pitch that made the White Sox's batters struggled last season, as they were just #23 in the league on this area. Santana's main problem is the fact that he is homerun-prone, but I don't think that will get exposed today on such cold temperatures. On the other hand, Jake Peavy was quite poor in Spring Training with a 7.88 ERA in two starts. Peavy struggled against the Royals last season with a 5.68 ERA in three outings against Kansas City. In fact, the current Royals's roster hits very well against him with a .322 BA and .836 OPS! Kansas City is an improved team this season and I expect them to put Peavy in trouble once again today.
